tiggertateThis is gonna show my age.
130 gr Rem Bronze Point .277, 270 Win
200 gr Nosler BT .338, 338-06 AI
130 gr BarnesX, Moly coated, .308, 300 Win
130 gr Speer Grand Slam, .277, 270 Win again
All for the same reason: kill like lightning as used.
That's it. don't have a 5th that I've used extensively because these were enough in my medium bores.
The next favorite bullet for medium game, though is the 53 gr Horn match HPBT in 22-250 or faster.
"Experience" is the only class you take where the exam comes before the lesson.

ChopperGuy1: 9.3 Swift 250 gr A Frame - Great accuracy for a bonded core bullet and flawless killing performance on plains game up to Eland
2: 30 Cal 180 gr Swift A Frame - Ditto from Steenbuck to Kudu
I'm not a target shooter, I prefer to have great terminal bullet performance in the field when I do my part at the back of the rifle.
Can't wait to see the results of this topic.

<allen day>My top-five:
150 gr. Hornady Interloct/.30-06: This is the best deer bullet I've ever used in the '06. It kills whitetails and mule deer like a lightning bolt, shoots flat, and delivers superb accuracy. I load it to 2950 fps. in the '06 with IMR 4350.
180 gr. Nosler Partition/.300 Win. Mag. This has been my favorite bullet for the 300, and it's served me with absolutely reliable results on Texas whitetails and hogs, mule and Coues deer, pronghorn, elk, Dall sheep, black bear, and scores of African plainsgame animals -- from Damaraland dik dik to Cape eland. It's reliable, it's consistent, it's super-accurate, and most importantly -- Nosler doesn't mess with it, and it's been consistent from lot to lot, year-in and year-out. It'll be used in Africa once again this season........
180 gr. Winchester Fail-Safe: Another favorite for the 300 Win. Mag. I've taken over fifty big game animals with this bullet out of the 300, including local elk, black bear, etc., to African plainsgame as well as African lion, leopard, and a brace of Cape buffalo. This is the most reliable TOUGH super-premium bullet I've ever used, but when Winchester changed the ogive from the original profile, they no longer shot so well in my rifle, so I went back to Noslers.
210 gr. Nosler Partition/338 Win. Mag.: Bob Nosler once told me that he considered this to be the "flagship" bullet of the Nosler line, and I didn't argue with him. The 210 Partition is a lethal killer, and penetrates way out of proportion to its SD and weight. Superb performer for me on elk, mule deer, hogs, and whitetails. Loaded to 2900-3000 fps., and you've got wonderful terminal performance with light recoil. I shot another elk with his bullet last season, and it penetrated nearly lengthways and exited. I've NEVER recovered one of these bullets from any big game animal.
250 gr. Nosler Partition/338 Win. Mag.: As good as the 210 is, the 250 is truly the all-around bullet for the 338 Win., just as the 180 is the all-around bullet for the '06. Every elk I've shot with the 250 Partition went down as if he was hammered on the head with a sledge, and if I was allowed only ONE bullet for the 338 Win, this bullet would be it. And it's amazingly accurate as well, more like a varmint bullet in some rifles. My current 338 Win. shoots this bullet better than anything else, with groups at 100 yds. in the .300s" if I've having a decent shooting day. I always sight-in 2" high at 100 yds. for a 200 yd zero with this bullet at 2700 fps. and change........

Paul TunkisI'm always messing about with something and I've had some bad luck with some bullets in some rifles. Either the bullet didn't shoot a decent group or if it did it was less than satisfactory on game. This is what has consistantly worked for me both at the range and in the field over the years. Generally I try Hornadys for practice and to see how a rifle shoots. Then I see if it will shoot Partitions well enough for hunting. This list contains bullets that I have no doubt as to their satisfactory performance on the game listed.
243: 100gr. Partition, deer and antelope
270: 130 & 140 gr. Hornady's, deer and antelope
270: 150 Partition, deer and elk and african game
7x57: 175 Partition, deer and boar
7mm Rem: 175 Partition, deer, elk, boar
308: 165 Hornady, deer
308: 168 Sierra, target
30/06: 180 Partition, deer & elk
30/06 220 Hornady, elk and bear
338: 250 Partition, deer and elk
35 Whelen: 250 Partition, deer, elk and african game.
45/70: 350 Hornady, elk and bear
44 Mag. Cast Performance 300gr WFNGC, moose, elk
44 Mag. 240 gr Hornady, deer
44 mag. 250 gr Partition, deer and boar
