On page 12 of Remington's new 2007 catalog (http://www.remington.com/pdfs/07catalog-ammo.pdf ) shows the hunter using a Winchester M70 rifle instead of a Remington. I guess, if I were Remington, I would try to feature my own products in my marketing catalogs...

Hey Maybe Remington bought the manufacturing rights to the Model 70!

Their concept on that page of making the 300 Ultra Mag available in 3 different performance levels sure is about time a company took that approach for non handloaders... BOOM

The bolt shape is wrong for a M70.

I'm guessing that it is the new 798 rifle with is a Mauser 98 style action.

798 does not come with a 3 position safety. Looks like a M70 to me......bolt is a bit odd though.

That is a 798. That is the bolt shroud you are looking at and it has a side safty. The bolt handle is just like the Charles Daly.

I have to agree that the gun is a model 70. The remington 798 does not come with a synthetic stock and the bolt handle does not have any checkering. The gun in the picture has both. The gun in the picture also has gas ports for case rupturs and the model 798 doesnt have these either.

I believe I can see the winchester safety, it is just one of remington's screwups.

Heck even if the gun in the picture was made in YugoSlavia it doesn't jump out and say "Remington" does it.
That Pic is too funny.................DJ

Since this picture is in a section of the catalog devoted to ammunition, perhaps through the deliberate but subtle use of this picture Remington is trying to suggest to owners of non-Remington rifles that they can nevertheless use Remington ammunition in them.

Even if it was a 798 (which it isn't) it shouldn't be on the page of the 300 RUM ammo, which the 798 isn't chambered for. If someone in Remington's marketing crew isn't looking for a new job, they should be...

LE270, You're giving Remington far far too much credit......from what I've seen in the last year or so there ain't enough brains at Rmington to think this well, and if there was there's not enough energy left to execute it.

Whatever is there is by dumb luck or a total mistake.

Come on guys, that cannot be anything but a Winchester model 70!

Look at the tang. Look at that ugly-azz bent
barn spike with the cheezy knurling.

Now does that look like any Yugo made action
EVER produced?

All this proves is that the guys at Remington are as stupid as the guys at Winchester!

It is a M70. NOT a 798 as several people have suggested. There is no slide safety, it is a 3 position safety. The bolt is nothing like the zastava mausers. Just pure M70 classic.

Probably the dumb asses that designed the catalog had never seen nor used a real gun. Kinda like the Leupold ad that had the scope mounted backwards.

Don't look NUTTIN like what I saw in their booth at the SHOT show last weekend, they do have a Stainless charles daly mauser now.....finish looked s....tty to me.

Oh well, will do my best to refrain from buying ANY new Rem's due to their attitude and business decisions, not to mention number QC issues that plaqued past rifles I had....and sold.

It may be possible that the advertising guys aren't experts in the gun industry. They probably just buy photos and no one caught it in the proof.

Two ads just came out in the same publication for two agents in our real estate office with the same house, same photo, same description but two pages apart. That's fine but the ad folks ran the price $100K too low on the first ad.

One of the major hunting books in my little industry ask for advertisers for a sum a while back. I sent in my info and a nice check. The book got published with not only the incorrect business name but a transposed phone number. The author said, "Oh well, stuff happens... no refund... no correction... maybe next time I'll get it right."

Kyler

No one caught it in the proofs? Maybe Remington employs folks that "aren't experts in the gun industry." Obviously their marketing folks were asleep at the wheel on this one.

At least Remington is still publishing a catalog with bolt action rifles in it, even if one of them is a Winchester Model 70.

Not even USRAC/Winchester does that anymore.

I don't know about the rest of you knuckleheads, but I am a guy who is lucky enough to like either Winnys or Remmys, depending on configuration and manufacture date. My guess is that most of you poor bastards have to choose one or the other in order to overcome your small penis mentality. They both put out decent rifles. (or put it in the past tense if you like, but it don't matter). But as the women say, it's the motion on the ocean, or in man language, it's all in the hands of the operator, and since I'm an experienced fella, I want you to understand something that you might not ever figure out on your own.....IT DON'T MAKE A FUCKING DIFFERENCE AS LONG AS YOU YOU HOW TO SHOOT THE SON A BITCH! You can post any half assed pic in any half assed catalog made in NEW YORK CITY by some peckerlip, no common sensed, good for nothing, metrosexual, but that dont that don't have anything to do with how my 300RUM ammo is built. And if you think it does, get the fuck outta here and move back to your stuck up ass homeland such ass europe or hillary clintons cuntpad, cause real Americans (such as the people who built this awesome country....ei ..your fathers) don't have time for your horseshit.

Hokkaido.... chill man.... no one's having a go at you - it's directed at Remington's marketing people.

Yep, I'd bet it's a Win 70, and whilst I can sort of understand the concept of 'our ammo is suitable for all rifles' I would have thought that Rem would not have shot themselves in the foot yet again....

If there's one thing Remington are good at, it's putting holes in their own boots!!
