I'll be picking up my new ultra mag today and was wondering what bullet you would recommend. Mainly Aoudad, hogs and elk is what I have planned for this rifle.

I thought the Accubond would be good but I have heard great things about the Barnes TTSX.

Anyone on here tried the Norma or Nosler brass for the RUM?

Used premium and heavy in mine. 180 X bullets because it was before TSX or TTSX. Wouldn't go any lighter for sure, you can get too much of a good thing.
Can't comment on the brass, I used Rem.

For my Ultra-Mag I used Swift Scirocco's and they work great.

I suspect you need a tough heavy bullet..I would probably give the 200 gr. Nosler Partition, perhaps an Accubond a try???.

That said, my gut feeling is at those extremely high velocities a monolithic hollow point such as the Barnes or better yet the GS Customs would be the best bet..

However, Im shooting in the dark, and relieing on past experience with bullets and hunting in general and being a bullet digger of some years, having never owned or even seen a 300 RUM in the field, and basing my post on common since and lots of experience with the 300 Wby.

I shot my elk this year with the 168 E-Tip and a good load of R-25. The 175 Barnes LRX also shoots very well in my rifle as did the 180 E-Tip and the 200 gr. Partition.

I loaded a buddy 200 grain Northforks with 94 grains of Retumbo, Fed 215M primers. 3000 fps was the Chonographed speed. He took a great Bull Elk at 418 yards lazered distance with two Bullets that recovered showed perfect mushrooms. Good shooting.

If you want a premium bullet I would go with the Peregrine PlainsMaster 165 or 180 grain.

I used my mine culling with 180 Accubonds and picked
up few other animals, most notably water buffalo, a big scrubber and a coastal grizzly. There sure wouldn't be any hestitation to
Plaster an elk or two.

I used both Nosler and Norma brass. My loads had to
Be kept to the low end of all published date, but the speeds listed for the max loads were there
With the lower charges so I didn't worry about it.

BTW, if you plan on shooting it much don't get too attached to your barrel.

I've used the 200gr accubond exclusively in my 300 RUM for the last 6-7 years. It's worked extremely well on several elk and a large mule deer at extended range. Performance was perfect on all animals, showing controlled expansion and complete penetration.

Shoot straight, shoot often.

I agree, a 200gr Accubond is all you need.
I use these in my 300WM, the extra couple of hundred fps will really make them shine.
I still have never recovered one.

Cheers.

My 300 Rum likes the Barnes 180 gr TTSX bullet.Everything I've shot just dies right there. Not sure how you improve on that.

IMO the 300 RUM is best with 200 or heavier bullets. I have used on with 180 Accubonds on two Africa trips, but I would use 200 ABs. My most accurate RUM shoots 210 Bergers, but I have not shot game with them.
