How do Dakota and Bolliger compare in terms of function and looks? Thanks

577ne: John Bolliger's rifle is a complete custom job. As such, you can have anything you want provided you are willing to pay for it. Dakota, on the other hand, is a semi-custom production rifle with a considerable number of available options, all at extra cost. Both are very nice rifles, but the Bolliger is better, and will also be more expensive. Tom

John Bolliger makes a beautiful but IMHO slightly overpriced rifle. I have a couple of Dakota rifles and they are definitely a step down. There are smiths out there such as Patrick Holehan who make a rifle as nice as Bolliger for less money. I have a hard time justifying a $13K rifle on a current model 70 action with no engraving. His wood is gorgeous but how expensive can wood be?

Apples and pears are hard to compare! I have both in .375 H&H Dakota & Bolliger - Dakota is a good rifle, semi custom not comparable with a full blown custom job by one of the best craftsman in the trade. John Bolliger - .375 H&H ![]() Roland
