I recieved a reply from Phil Hodgdon about light loads. That 1/2 case capacity of H4895 is nice accurate light load. In a double check e-mail he told me that 50% case capacity as long as that is not "over the maximum load" is safe. I am getting some H4895 ASAP and am looking forward to trying it in these calibers, 300WSM, 45-70, 270Win,223Rem.

I use a 235gr cast fbfp over 12 gr red dot, shoots as well as I can hold out to around 75 yards and gives 5-6" penetration in blocks of hard wood I use for testing that kind of stuff.I have gone as low as 6gr of same with ok results.
not really a problem, but the red dot does not oomph to seal the cases, and the outside of the neck and case turn sooty.
The biggest problem is that they are so much funto shot, they go very quickly. we use them to shoot at rolling motorcycle tires with cardboard targets inside, for moving practice. It is real easy and fast to end up shooting a couple of dozen shots each.
No recoil, little nooise, and low cost.
It breeds good offhandlilng skills at something much less than the buck a shot that may cost for the full monty with hunting bullets.
