Hello!

I have come across a very nice H&H Rook Rifle, chambered in 295 Rook

1) Does anyone know anything about this round/caliber?

2) Aside from the small quantities @ auctions here in the UK, does anyone know sources?

Crazy Idea: re-bore for something like .204 Ruger?

Rebore?

Q. How do you get a Holland & Holland Rook Rifle in 204 Ruger worth say $200?

A. Get a Holland & Holland Rook Rifle in 295 worth say $1000 and spend $300 reboring it to that calibre?

Why not just buy something in 204 Ruger? If you visit www.gavingardiner.com or www.holtsauctioneers.co you will see that you are, quite literally, thinking of spending money to destroy any worth that the thing has at all.

I would ask how to make 295 Rook from Betram cases and details of a UK supplier - Henry Krank I think.

Sorry to sound rude but over thirty years I've seen so many of these things "bastardised" to another calibre - and rendering them usually a poor badly balanced chassis for that calibre - to feel so strongly.

One favourite once being conversion what would have been "small" blackpowder cartridge calibre double rifles for deer (360, 400) to 410 shot guns.

Firstly,
I do not know the 295 rook specifically, but i do know a bit about the concept.

The rook rifles are single shot, low report, low powered rifle, meant for killing garden pests. Gargen in the English use of the word, not American. The rifles are LOW PRESSURE, and meant for within 75 yards MAX -- Greener mentions that the 295 was accurate to 50 yards, but fell off dramatically at 75

think shortened and rimmed 30 carbine...

If one rebarreled, as it would not be possible AND safe to reline, to 204 ruger, the first shot would probably cause the action to depart to places unknown, quite a few of those, simultaneously, in all directions

If you like a barely louder than a 1400 fps sprinter pellet rifle, then get the 295 .. though, today, a 22 LR is a better conceptual comparison than a 204.

and, i could go blathering on about park rifles, as well ..

If you want a single shot 204, get a HR or contender

You've got a very nice old rifle for small game. It will never be able to handle a 60K psi cartridge in a 15K psi gun.

The only thing I have seen them converted to was 32 S&W Long and 38 Special.
And even then it ruined the collector value.

I'd love to have one as a classy rabbit gun. Smiler

I think you can still get the 295 Rook cases from Bertram.

If I remember correctly I think it is also called the 300 Rook.

Not 100% on that but I think I have some info in one of my books.
