I talked my wife into letting me get a custom rifle built. After using her winchester model 70 FW in a 7mm-08 for deer hunting this fall I fell in love with the rifle. It is very fast to point and I really like the smaller/skinnier stock of the FW. I talked to my friends gun smith and have decided on a Montana Short action, with a mcmillon hunters edge stock, a 22" barrel. Its going to chambered in a 7mm-08. I plan on shooting 150gr Accubond LR for mulies and whitetails. Now for the four month wait. If this rifle turns out and nice as I think it will I might be selling off my cooper excaliber in a 338-06 for the same rifle in a 338 federal.

Sounds like a great idea for a rifle.

From experience, do not be upset if the four months turns into six months. Or longer.

Post pictures when you get it.

Remember that the MRC action is a little heavier and longer than the M70.

not for nothing, the MRC is pretty darn close to the m70 action -- you might consider just getting a stock for your FWT ....

i've built many rifles... and the experience i have learned/earned/bought is that you have to keep what you can sell it for in mind -- and if it makes a difference --

enjoy your build, hope it works out amazing for you

Don't forget stock fit in your specs. Sounds like you want him to duplicate the FWT dimensions.

Whats nice about the featherweights is that they are made with the short action, which may be different from the action you are going to use. What you could do is take the wife's featherweight for yourself and buy her a classic compact. They are a real nice little gun that is easy and light to carry. I have been using one in .308 for years. Nice little gun.
