I really like the bit I have seen of the new edition Ruger "Safari" rifles.

I don't plan to take one on Safari to Africa or some other exotic locale, but wouuld like to get one in a moderate "hunting rifle" chambering for use here in the desert...some non-magnum of 6.5 to .30 bore.

Can anyone post a quick list of what chamberings they are available in?

Thanks, Jeffe -

I am not interested in a Safari Magnum. I noticed on the small-bore forum they are making smaller "Safari" rifles in .223...so what I am trying to find out is, are they making them also in rounds like the 7x57, 30-06, that sort of thing? A 6.5 of some sort would be nice, as would almost any 7m/m variation.

You can still order a Alaskan .416 Remington caliber but it will be in poly stock and stainless steel barrel 20 inches long. The African models were all 23 inches long!

Actually no not a 416 Rem but the 416 Ruger. Close. I think the 223 would be fun for practice and I wish they would make the 23" blued in 416 Ruger.

I wish they made the "Safari" in either 7x57, 8x57, or 9x57. I'd buy all three if they were available.

Why not just get a model 70 Winchester in the caliber you want?
