Is there any logical reason behind that?
What's the point?

I own two .375 H&H's. One is a custom rifle with a select Turkish walnut stock (for hunting Africa) and the other is a custom rifle with a McMillan synthetic stock and Cerakoted barreled action (for hunting Alaska and Canada).

I've got I don't know how many .223s, a couple 22/250s, 2 .257 Weatherbys, a couple 30-30s, 2 .308s,2 .270s 4 30-06s, 5 .300 Wins, 4 7STWS and was up to 3 .375 H&Hs for a bit before dropping back to two.

Sometimes its having a heavy and light version, a blued Walnut and synthetic stainless version of the same cartridge. Sometimes its the desire to have a spare for when one is on the re-barrel rack. Sometimes its to have one to shoot the crap out of while keeping the barrel fresh on another one. Mostly it doesn't make a lot of sense, but it does make at least as much as having dozens of different calibers that all do the same thing. I know because I do that to.

What was the question again?

I own several of each 308 win 223 3006 45-70
mostly because the price was right

2 505 Gibbs,4 375H&H, 5 30/06, 5 223, 4 7x57 and the list goes on. You can't have too many firearms.

2. 1903 Springfield National Match, sporterized, since restored. (Father in law passed away and I inherited)
3. 1903 Springfield regular service rifle ( " " )
4. Ruger #1 (brother passed away and I inherited)
5. 1909 Argentine, half sporterized, military barrel rechambered. (bought at good price for a project)

Make that 6, I forgot about the half bubba'ed 1917 I picked up for $90 for another future project...

First step Rick is admitting you have a problem

I have 3 ruger 375 R

I have 10-12 - 308/7.62

I have 6 plus 5.56

I have 4 - 7.62x39

All my shotguns are 12

I think what you really need is 2 identical rifles - same calibre, same scope for your main hunting gun. The concept of british pair makes a lot of sense.

I should do that for 375 H&H but these rugers are interesting rifles.

I have one setup with peep sights and sighed for 220 grain, one scoped for 180s, a Biakal o/u double, my fathers rifle, my grandfathers model 70 (I have the original box of ammo he bought with it in 1953, 5 shots fired through the gun!)............
I have a thing for sporterized Model 1917s.

Now thats a concept I love--working on it for my 416's and 270 WSM's. Except on the 46's i am going with a 1x4 and a 3x9 scope--both in QD rings so I can switch them.

It is not at all uncommon to have two (or more) rifles in the same caliber, but dedicated to a different purpose. For example, a sporter .243 for smaller big game, and a heavy barreled .243 for varmints.

Or to have the same caliber in several different variations/grades of the same make of rifle (sporter, full stock, heavy barrel) in the pursuit of collecting that particular make.

Or just because one takes a fancy to a rifle or rifles of which he already owns several of that particular caliber.

Or because a rifle of the same caliber is purchased because the buyer perceives it as having potential for monetary appreciation.

There are both practical and aesthetic reasons for owning more than one rifle in a given caliber. Unfortunately, there are some jurisdictions in which you have to justify such ownership to more than just yourself.

Although my multiples make sense to me they may not to anyone else.
If you own multiple .223's (I do) they can be set up for different uses like a couple could be set up for defense or short range fast action hunting while others set up for heavy barreled varminting, then there is the bolt .223 cuz I wanted one.
In 22/250's for example one is set up as a heavy Varminter and the other a walking varminter or Deer and Antelope rifle (sporter weight).
Most of the rest of my rifles are individual in respect to cartridge except I have 2 .375 H&H's one came in a package deal of rifles I won in a raffle.
All my rifles will eventually be handed out to my 2 boys so in that respect having 2 or 4 of a certain chambering makes some sense.

I have many instances of having more than one rifle in the same caliber.

The best pair are 2 375/404 rifles we have built specifically for hunting in Africa.

Both rifles use the same ammo, so all we need do is take one type of ammo, and as many 6 of us hunt with them.

Makes life so much easier logistically too.

We are only allowed to own 6 hunting weapons ( more if your have very good reasons. )

So, I listend to the late Allen Day, buy the best you can, make sure its reliable and spend the rest of your money hunting instead of fiddeling around with another gun.


So, I am having two rifles put together. Two Brno ZG-47 in 30-06 in McMillan stocks, identical scopes etc etc.. A matched pair.

I will have them loaded with the same loads, and (try to) spend the rest of my life owning and hunting those two rifles.



The others are for hunting where a 30-06 is not needed.

Of course, good things come in pair. I have 2 :

- 9 Para
- .357 Mag
- .44 Mag
- .45 ACP (x3)
- 12 ga (x5)
- .22 LR (x3).

7. Mounting scopes
8. Bore sighting

11. Developing loads

By this time your system is not responding as well to the current meds, and a new prescription is required.

My double up's include the following. Two .223's both set up for little critters. Four .270 WSM's set up for Deer and Elk. Two .358 STA's set up for big critters. Between myself, my son and six grandsons they are all shot extensively and bring home the meat often. Good Shooting.

They are different guns for different hunts, usually Wet v. Dry.

A lightweight walk around hunting rifle, a 1,000 yard F class rifle and a Savage 99 lever gun

And I have three 223s built on different AR rifle platforms.

Sure. If I like a caliber, why not own more than one. One set of dies, one group of bullets, etc. And often, sizing for one fits the other.

Neck sized brass fits all three. Accuracy loads are not the same but, who cares.
Several other calibers offer the same convenience.

I have two rifles in almost the same caliber both 8x57....but one is the .323cal the other is .318cal. Nor quit the same but close.

I have 4 pre 64 Win 70's in 30-06, 2 Fwts and 2 Stds. I justify them by saying they are to go to the kids/grandkids when I croak.

(2) .416 Rugers, an Alaskan and an African. One set of dies, one pile of brass, 3 or 4 bullets to try in each. Just need to save up for a grizzly hunt and a buffalo hunt now.

I only have duplicates in 3 cartridges.

I multiple multiples. I buy rifles because the voices in my head tell me to. Actually I have three or four 260s, 243s, 223s, 300Wbys, and a couple 6.5x284, 270win. The reason is all my darn kids have occasion to use the same guns I do on a given trip. I have singles in oddball 'special' guns like 257wby 270wby, 338rum, 6.5-06 that are just for me.

For me, the hard part was figuring out what carts were for me. .

I can't see the sense in having a whole bunch of different carts. Tho I would like a 17 HH I think I can resist the temptation
I'm not sure I can resist a 338 tho. Just need to get off my duff and get going on the 338/375 Ruger.
