I was able to finally pick up the rifle Ruger should have made. It will make a nice stable mate for my 500 Jeffery RSM. I almost jumped on a Ruger African in 9.3x62 but I so much more happy I found this one. I'll report back on how it shoots once I get it.

This was a Jim Dubell conversion. He did my 500 Jeffery conversion and does great work. Only problem is that because of this he is usually back logged quite a bit. Finding this gun ready to go was a real Bonus since I had been shopping for donor rifles for some time.

On another note I just looked up Quick Loads using RE15 and Nosler 250grn BT bullets they state that 60.0grn will give 2567fps for 3658ft-lb of energy does anyone have a load close to this that they are happy with? Just Curious. Smiler

Thanks Smiler

I've tried that load. Velocity is probably accurate from a 24" tube. Mine is 20.5" and I was getting about 2470 fps. The great thing about the Accubond is the .490 BC, it retains velocity well.

Oh, beautiful rifle!

Thanks Scott that high BC got me started on the ultimate long range elk rifle project ie 9.3 RUM however, that was way too much of a good thing. Now I'm really seeing the virtures of the 9.3x62 as being a real great medium bore with a health dose of power and fairly efficient not bad for a round designed in 1905.

Cheers Brad Smiler

Brad...I am getting about 2550 with my 23" CZ 550 barrel and 59.0 of RL-15 and a 250 Barnes X.

I am also getting varmint rifle groups , with several 3shot groups around 1/2" at 100...

I would say you are in the ballpark.

Brad,

That is a VERY nice looking rifle. If looks assist in the Acid Test you'll be a Happy Camper for sure.

The Nosler 250 gr. BT's remain my favorite bullet in the 9.3x62 - period. Nosler got that one correct; right out of their R&D department but couldn't leave well enough alone and decided to discontinue them and go with the AccuBond; well, O.K.? I guess that's progress but I cannot determine if there's been any improvement over the original BT.

bewildered

I have every affinity with and am of the same ilk as everyone else attempting to eak all the potential juice outa cartridges - go for it; especially with BigGame & RL-15 which appear to pretty much be the powders of choice stateside with this cartridge. Bear in mind though that launching a .366" 250-286 gr. projectile at @2350 fps from this cartidge gets the Job Done, quite handily, for sure.

Years ago, the initial 9 rounds out of my first 9.3x62 with VVN-140, H-4895, IMR-4320 & Speer 270 gr. SP's all cut 3 different 3-shot clover-leaves at 100 meters so getting good accuracy outa 9.3x62 is no mean feat. Just a great, accurate, powerful Thumper that seemingly delivers amazing Whoomp; almost defying the amount of recoil generated - Wow!.

I've tried alot of .366" bullets, Woodliegh, PMP, Nosler (except Partition), Hornady, Geco, RWS, Privi Partisan & Speer and there just isn't an inadequate bullet at the moment among them; they'll all neatly do The Deed; some with more aplomb, Bells & Whistles that we demand with today's crop of miracle bullets; but they all work just fine.

Good Luck & have fun with your new Boomer.

Cheers,

Number 10

Very pretty rifle!

You will love the 9,3x62. I like it so much I have two. Big Grin

The Nosler 286 gr Partition at 2425 fps is terrifically effective on game ... WAY more than you would think.

Enjoy!

Up to about 60 gr of Varget and the 250 AB gets me 2606 fps from my 24" Pacnor. John Barsness runs the same combo for about 2650 fps. Not sure how much. Also Big Game and the 285 Part is a marriage made in heaven.

My go to load so far is:

Graf Brass
250 Nosler AB
OAL 3.370
55.0 Gr IMR 4064
Fed 210 Primers
Lothar Walther 24" bbl.
1/2" three shot groups @ 100yds.

Kills anything I point it at. Really don't need to waste bullets looking for any other loads.

Well, you will be happy with it. If I had to have only one other rifle, other than my 12ga over 7x57R, it would be my 9.3x62.

Mine is a Ruger, tang safety, and no where near as attractive as yours. Years back when I first heard of the 9.3x62 I had a 30-06 Ruger tang safety that was a knock around loaner rifle. I had it bored out, re-chambered and bedded by a great gunsmith in White Sulphur Springs MT. This made for a very light, fast handling rifle (just shy of 8 pounds are ready to go). It's taken a bunch of plains game, elk, deer and even an antelope.

Recoil from the bench with any load will clear your sinuses but it is accurate and consistently so. I have an old 1x4 Burris shotgun scope on it, 22 inches of eye relief at 1x, and 5+ at 4x. It likes just about any bullet but I've used 286 NP for the most part. Ramshot Big Game gives 2450 with the NP.

The rifle looks very well used at this point, it beginning to acquire some "character", some would say it still looks better than its owner... May your new 9.3x62 become as good and trusted companion as mine has been.

Take one stock ruger express rifle in 30-06 send it to Jim Dubell wait a while and let him work his magic and boom out pops a 9.3x62 like they should have made. I'll tell you more once I get it.
