310 woodleighs and 35 whelen
Anyone know the COL of the 35 Whelen with a Woodleigh 310g SP crimped in the cannelure? Will they work in a standard FN mauser box/action?
Thanks

3.27", have loaded these for my Remington 700 CDL, no issues other than the 1-in-16" twist that isn't quite fast enough to stabilize that bullet. Best groups are 2" to 3" at 100 yards from my rifle.

Woodleigh recommends a 1-in-14" twist or faster. I load these for my .358 Winchester BLR which has a 1-in-12" twist and get very good accuracy.

Thanks 4sixteen. I'll probably be getting a 1-12" for mine since I'm starting from scratch.

Impressive bullet, in my .35 Whelen (24" barrel) I get just under 2400 fps using RL-15. It has a b.c. of 0.458, pretty decent for a round nose bullet.

Wow, a 310gr Woody in a 358 Winchester? I need to try that with mine :-)

I think the one in ten minimum if you want to do the 310 woodie
The 9,3x62 is 1 in 10 for the heavy bullets like these. Damn Remington for ruining the reputation and performance of the 35 Whelen with heavy bullets with its stupid 1 in 16 twist. Starting from scratch? Do it right with the same twist or close to the 9,3x62.

dean 119,
JMHO, you don't need a 310 Woodie in a 35 Whelen. Tried them in a std. barrel twist 1-12 and they were not as accurate as the 250 gr. which shoot to less than 1 inch for 5 shots in a 7 lb. gun with a 20 inch barrel.
Wife has 11 one shot kills in Africa with the 250 gr Woodie at 2500 fps. with RL 15. Awsome
performance from Impala to Kudu and Zebra. If you need deep penetration use
the 250 gr North Fork. Used a Rem 721 Long Action and still had some feeding issues with the 310s, not worth the trouble imo.

Good Shooting
