Its hard for me to think of getting rid of my 338 win mag Ruger model 77s in both mark I and Mark II.I shoot under an inch with all of them at 100 yards and most will shoot under an inch at 200 yards.I like my wood stocked and laminated stocked 338s the best.I have made up a few 6.5 pound 338s that are easier to carry but will kick alot harder.I have toyed with putting a boss on one of my stainless ruger 338s.I wanted Ruger to come out with the 416 Ruger not a short 338.Its a cool little round but it wont sell like the 338 win mag does.I hope Ruger does not quit making the 338 win mag .The 338 federal is not enough and the 338 ultra mag was too much the 338 win mag is just right.My other 338 is a 338-378 Weatherby.It is the best of the best long range guns.I dont think a carbine 338 that shots 1.5" groups apeals to me.Mine shoot clover leafs already and I aint messing with them.
