If a gun wont shoot TTSX's its time for a new gun. Only Angels and Aviators have wings

I agree, with the stated unless the rifle does not shoot them well. I have only shot 225 TSX and TTSX factory loads, but in a few different rifles. Thus far, all the rifles have grouped them well to very well. I have a very sufficient number of both to hand load. The Federal 225 Tipped Trophy Copper is another factory load that I want to try. I have been using the Barnes mono's for years and have been satisfied. But, I don't envision the other manufacturers mono's performing differently to any meaningful degree after contact. My only concern would be how well they shoot in a particular rifle. The 225 TSX is what I stumbled across that shot very well in a Ruger rifle. And performed excellent. So I am attached to the 225's. I think the performance difference between the mono 225's and 210's would be minuscule. Lots of great 338 bullets. I would have no hesitation using the solid shank bonded types either. The 338 has many choices that provide bone breaking penetration, terminal effective, and very respectable ballistic coefficients.

When I bought my 338 the folks at Barnes told me to use the 185 or 210 for everything but Alaska. Use the 225 for Alaska. I use the 210 TSX and from what I've seen in the tests at Barnes there isn't a lot of difference in the 210 vs the 225 in penetration. I have a bad shoulder so I stick with the 210. My load gives me 2900 fps.I would shoot anything suitable with it. I may change to the 225 for a big coastal bear but I've never been after one so I don't know. DW

If you use a 225TTSX and RL 19 (Very common combination) in a 338WM you are really compacting the powder (handloads). Even the 210TTSX compacts the powder. I really like the 338WM!! If I was to start from scratch I would get an old Sako L61R or AV action to start with. They have a longer magazine box than most rifles. You can seat the bullets out way further and still get them in the box.Reduce the compaction but you will not eliminate it unless you go to something like Ramshot Hunter which is a spherical high density/ volume powder. Get a pipe with a little longer throat to facilitate the longer OAL. Like I mentioned (If I started from scratch using a TTSX) EZ
