6.5 Creedmoor, Which Rifle?

I have become enamored of the 6.5 Creedmoor cartridge. It seems like an effective, accurate, low-recoil round with the about the best factory ammunition available. I'd like to get a sporter in this caliber for hunting and general shooting. I know I could get guaranteed accuracy by springing for a GAP, HS Precision, or other high-end rifle, but it seems many folks are getting pretty incredible accuracy from regular production factory rifles. What have you been having good luck with?

Yes, that's a thought. They're just coming in now. A Match 6.5CM would probably shoot light out!

Joking aside...
At the moment, I´m also thinking about a 6,5CM (match-) rifle. I´m thinking about this one, with a few other configurations, like, a heavy match barrel and a GRS-Hybrid Stock.....

I'll bet that one shoots. I was thinking more of a hunting, walking rifle.

Jon, I have a new SHilen in 6.5 x 8 twist CM I ordered by mistake, should have been stainless. It is a blank, #3 contour. The shank was turned to 1.150", otherwise untouched. A good start.

Biebs I share your interest in the Creedmoor. I just gave Grice's Gun Shop a deposit on a LAW Professional. I'm hoping it gets here before next fall. It looks like just the ticket for whitetails.

Blue-print a 700 action (buy a cheap used rifle) and have someone chamber, thread, cut and crown the barrel that Jim Kobe has. A quick coating or re-blue and you've got something that should shoot really well.

I know many on here are died in the wool Mauser fans but it's really hard to beat the way a nice little Remington 700 will shoot.... not to mention that all sorts of accessories are easily found too.

There's 2 cents for you,
Zeke

Id opt for a neat little L series Sako, or even a cheap used Rem mod. 722 if I were to build a Creedmoor.

Lou, A Legendary rifle sounds good, but I have the patience of a 3 year old. Kimber offers the Adirondak in a 6.5 CM, but I don't know if I want an 18" barrel. Ruger makes quite a few models in 6.5, but I'm still not trustful of Ruger accuracy from rifles I had years ago, although some have great luck with their newer rifles now. Maybe I'll just get a Cooper and be done with it :-)

Score High Gunsmithing built a lot of 6.5s and I think was early to them as a builder. Might give them a look.

Hard to beat the Weatherby Vanguard synthetic in 6.5 Creedmoor for out of the box accuracy and exceptional value.

1-8 twist 24" barrel, throated so high BC match bullets can be seated to reach the lands and still fit the magazine, excellent trigger and guaranteed sub moa accuracy. The example I have, with Hornady match ammo is closer to a 1/2 moa rifle.

Of course we are never satisfied, I wish Weatherby would chamber the stainless steel version in Creedmoor.

Word is Kimber is chambering the Montana for 260 Creed in 2016. I'm all in on that one.

I've got ten brand new stainless 700 SA, standard BF actions in the safe and at least a dozen great cut rifle 6.5 blanks in the binSmiler.

Heck, even have a nice McM mountain rifle stock in a box somewhere....

For cheap thrills, the Ruger American Predator ain't half bad.

First 5 shots out of mine today right out of the box.
I'm betting it will do better after I clean the barrel.

1st shot low rt
2nd shot upper rt
Next 3 were the hole on Left

Smiler I just find really good deals at times and probably buy a few more than I really need... Happen to be good friends with some of wisconsin's better barrel makers too, and one of them just happens to love the 6.5mm and he keeps my barrel bin full.

As cheap as they are they make a nice place holder until you get a rifle built. Then you can recycle it for a tent peg.

I too have the Weatherby Vangard synthetic. Haven't loaded for it yet, but the Winchester 140 match shoots 3/4 inch groups.

I bought a .243 and a .30-06 American, gave one to my son and one to my oldest grandson. Both will shoot five into .7 with good handloads, which about as good as I can expect with any production rifle at any price. I retorqued the stock, eliminated the 'accu' type trigger, clipping the spring a bit, and the triggers are about 2.5 pounds. Hard to beat for a hunting rifle.

I don't know if Remington chambers their M7 in 6.5 Creedmore but the one M7 I have has been pretty impressive for me in the accuracy department.

I just bought this same gun in 300 Blackout and if I were looking for a 6.5 Creedmoor I'd most likely buy another Ruger.

I have owned a couple of Kimbers and I think a Talkeetna, Mountain ascent or Montana in 6.5 Creedmoor would be awesome.

That being said, if you can manage the Howa/Weatherby Vanguard asthetics, ist is a hell of a lot of rifle for the money.

I wish Vanguards had a bolt release that didn't suck, beyond that they are pretty slick.
