Anyone in here into it at all? I like shooting far, NOT HUNTING FAR. There are three local ranges, within 20 miles of my home that offer steel out to 1000 yards.

I've been using my hunting rigs and Kentucky windage for elevation. A shooting buddy bought a Ruger Precision in 6.5 Creedmoor, topped with a Nightforce Mrad scope. I shot it and fell in love.

The weight, the trigger, the scope, the brake all make it an absolute pleasure to shoot all day. Seeing hits out to 1000 is rewarding as well.

So, I started my research. My first criteria was is LH available. That eliminated many. I was going to do the Savage Precision Elite. My continued research found the Savage has significant feeding problems.

I came across MPA (Masterpiece Arms) they offer a very high quality, chassis type rifle with a 1/2 MOA guarantee. They come in price wise at ~2600-2875 depending on options. I ordered a PMR Pro 2, in left hand.

I ordered a 6.5PRC simply for the addition ballistic advantage beyond 500 yards.

I am topping it with a Zeiss LRP S3 6x36-56.

Both rifle and scope fit just under the 3000.00 rifle and 2500.00 scope limit, if I choose to shoot competitively in the production rifle class.

14-16 week wait. I ordered about a month ago.

Steve, I had some friends that regularly shoot PRS. I thought about it, and I went to a couple of informal Long Range shooting contests (out to 1000 yards). You're right, lots of fun! Regularly hitting 1, 2, or 3 MOA targets at long distances is satisfying. I ended up shooting more USPSA/2 Gun/3 Gun types of contests, but I did build a big, heavy 6.5 CM that doesn't kick at all and is super accurate. It's a Terminus Zeus action with a Kreiger 1.25" no taper barrel. Has a 4-27 Vortex Razor with a Christmas tree reticle. Lots of fun to shoot.

You will like what you ordered.
I have a Bergara action in a MPA chassis. Chambered in 6mm Creedmore.
Tons of fun to shoot. Our local range is only 600 yds but i have traveled to a place that is 1000Yds.
Lots of fun hitting steel at 1000

The 6mm's and all their different suffix's are really taking over PRS shooting. Some of the pro's now refer to the 6.5 Creedmoor and the "needsmore".

It's just human nature to fiddle and look for the smallest of incremental improvements.

This video shows some the interesting cartridges used in PRS now. And an Erik Cortina AD, ND.

Chris, what powder are you running in your 6 Creed to preserve barrel life?

Here are the PRS, steel ranges, all within 20 minutes of my homes. The first two are BLM and are free. Not controlled, no Nazi range master.

The third is a Arizona Game and Fish, Ben Avery, competition only range, Berger sponsored 1000 yard paper target range.

All 20 minutes or less for me.

Add me in on the casual shooting long range stuff.

I put my money into a 6mm Creedmoor Seekins Havak Hit Pro and topped it with a Trijicon 4-24 TenMile. Factory ammo regularly drops into the sub 1/2 MOA and I haven’t even tried to do any handloading yet.

The PRS rifles are pretty darned amazing on paper. Super stiff chassis and accuracy that can be mind boggling for such a relatively low entry cost. I’m super lucky I have a 1250 yard range 45m from my house.

6mm Creedmoor had a reputation as a barrel burner in the beginning but from what I’ve read, that was due to the very hot factory ammo. Since then, the loads have come down a bit…what I tend to see now is a 110-ish gr. Bullet at 2900 fps. That’s a much more barrel friendly setup.

My powder of choice is H4350 in the 6mm.

Regards,

Robert

Here in the desert SW there is a lot of public land and lots of places to shoot as far as you want. It can be pretty gratifying to ring steel at a mile or more. There are local matches that can be a lot of fun too. F-class can also be very educational, as there are usually wind flags and you get to see exactly where your last shot went. Even if your "PRS" rifle doesn't meet F-class rules, those guys will normally let you shoot for fun.

I am rather fortunate in that I only have to drive 17 miles to my club that currently has steel targets to 1515 yards. It's a 2 MOA square plate. Other plates are some of the more familiar shapes and nothing beyond 1,000 yards is larger than 2 moa. From 870 and down to 600 yards there are many animals shaped plates which approach Lifesize.
God bless the southwest.

I have only had this gun for 3 months so i don't know how long the barrel is going to last.
Still playing with different bullets and powders. One of the best so far has been 108 gr Hornady ElD with 7828SSC powder. Goes about 2700 FPS and can hold .75 group at 100 yds.

I took a close look at the Seekins Havac, but no LH available. I liked their ability to change barrels without the aid of a gunsmith. Not sure how that works out in the real world, but still, interesting.

I am constantly surprised at the lack of LH actions that are available. I guess the relatively small market, and the even smaller LH demographic, within that small market, makes no sense.

Just another reason I picked the Masterpiece Arms Rifle.
