I have been known to make the statement that I'm just 1 rifle away from being satisfied.
Here are a couple of "finds" that I have had the luck to encounter in my never ending quest for happiness an satisfaction.........

I've kinda been on a quarterbore kick lately.
Here is a Remington 700 classic, '84 vintage for the Classic in 250 Savage. It was unfired when I acquired it. However I cured that in short order. Shoots partitions, ballistic tips and sierra spitzers @100 grains into sub inch groups at 100 using 38 gr. W760. Beautiful bluing, great wood and factory trigger that breaks at 2.5 lbs.

Something else I ran into and couldn't pass up.
An old Savage 99. According to the serial number it was new in 1900. Chambered in 303 Savage, 26" octagonal barrel, with original tang site. Excellent condition for its age. Got the brass and dies are on the way.

Bartsche,

I do not have a an OAL gauge for this chambering yet. My nolser manual lists SAAMI OAL at 2.515 for the 250 Savage. I loaded at 2.555 OAL and saw no instance of touching the lands. No problem with the mag at this length.
Have not loaded for the '99 yet. Dies on the way. Will know soon.

Nice Savage. I've got an 1899-C, very similar to yours. Also octagon to round, and also .303. Lots of fun to shoot. Mine was made in 1904, factory list was a whopping $21.50.

how neat! I got one of the 250's back when they came out. Couldn't leave it alone though. I had my gunsmith rechamber it to 25-284 about a month later. What a hammer.

your 303 savage should have a 308 bbl on it.
savage use the larger 311 diameter bullets in it to keep the pressures up for the higher velocity.
otherwise it'd be a 30-30 which it really is just in savage form.
so measure the groove diameter or try 308 bullets they should do fine.

I never bothered to slug the bore on my 303. Jacketed .308s shoot very well, cast bullets I size to .311".

You've have two great finds! That's actually an 1899. I have one that my grandfather had to rebarrel with a round 30-30 barrel because the orginal was rusted out.

760 and 38grs, might have to try that combo in my new Ruger 77 full stock chambered in 250. What a fine piece that rifle must be. FS

Fasteel,
I'd love to take credit for developing this load from scratch. However that is not the case. In the Nosler 5th edition Jim Bequette, (the VP and Exec. Editor of Shooting Times magazine at that time) indicated that both Rick Jamison and Layne Simpson as well as himself stated that their favorite load was 38 gr. W760 and the 100 gr. Nosler Ballistic Tip for the 250 Savage. Who am I to argue with such luminaries,(especially when it works).

Thanks for the kind words Bobcat. However, as the saying goes, even a blind hog finds an acorn now and then.

tu2 great find, I always wanted a 1/4 bore, ,250 sav, the Bob ,.25-06 and ended up with a .25wssm coyote lite that has made a great truck, coyote and whitetail hammer. Im shooting factory and saving brass love the 110gr accubonds and 120 gr PEP's that Win developed for the 25-06 The whitetails do a little dance when hit but go down fast, I was used to the .30 cal bang, flop, wilt em in the tracks for 30 years but the .25 is great whitetail medicine.

Cool, finds.
I recently seen a new 700 classic in the 300 Savage at a local gun store they never sold, it was like $600 something.
The 2003 classic release. Would have liked to have it and hand load some rounds for it.
