For my needs: .22 LR .243 .30-06 12 gauge This would cover everything I hunt, or expect to get to hunt. Red C. Everything I say is fully substantiated by my own opinion.

.22 lr 6.5x55 .375 H&H 12 Gauge It's not the caliber of the rifle that matters - It's the caliber of the man behind it.

I like your way of thinking; choices do depend on circumstances. Here in the UK: .22lr 22-250 .243Win .270Win If I lived in the US(where I am presently) .223Rem .270Win .338Mag -either Win or Lapua .458Lott because if I move to the US it means I can afford trips to Africa too.

Four calibers for what ??? For putting holes close together at a distance I'll opt for .308 Win. 30-06 Spfd. .300 WM And then 44 mag. in a lever gun, because it holds 10 rds and will work at moderate ranges in most applications. I like a 30 cal. bolt gun . . . with a scope.

I usually find these kind of threads pretty silly bit okay, I'll bite: 257 Roberts. 30-06 9.3X62 450 Rigby/Dakota Dave DRSS Chapuis 9.3X74 Chapuis "Jungle" .375 FL Krieghoff 500/.416 NE Krieghoff 500 NE "Git as close as y can laddie an then git ten yards closer" "If the biggest, baddest animals on the planet are on the menu, and you'd rather pay a taxidermist than a mortician, consider the 500 NE as the last word in life insurance." .22 LR 5.56/.223 .308/ 7.62X51 .375 H&H Relative availability of ammunition, while I might not choose them over others for any other reason---this reason seems prudent. DuggaBoye-O NRA-Life Whittington-Life TSRA-Life DRSS DSC HSC SCI

Why in God's name would anyone only have 4 calibers?

Possibly because they live where firearms ownership is far more restricted than in the US, like here in the UK.
