Been workin w/ a little 358 Win. in a hawkeye s/s, worked up to 2650 fps w/ 200gn TSX's. The little rifle is shootin about 3/4 @ 100, but something dawned on me while figuring a good zero point, is there any other caliber that gives in excess of 3100 ft lbs of energy on just 46 gns. of powder? seems damn effiecent to me. Maybe I just stumbled on to something many of You already know. Its nice to be pleasantly surprised now and then. JM

how far do you normally shoot and what is your MPBR diameter? if you are shooting under 150.. a 100 yard zero is fine opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? jeffesso, MPBR is 6" @250 yds., my rifle is zeroed +2" @100 0 @200 -4" @300 I got this little rifle for bad weather huntin on the steep mountain my farm backs up to, but coming back down there are my open pastures and some white oak fingers of timber runnin north and south to the east and west. Could have to take a longish shot, still have 2100fps mv. out to 300, pretty sure that tsx would open nicely on a whitetail @ that distance. JM

358 is a great cartridge and with the right bullet will do all you need for almost any big game. If you are worried about drop put a scope with a target turret on it and change for range. I don't know of a bad cartridge made on a 308 case!

srose, not worried about drop, just trying to answer jeffeosso's question about MPBR and zero. My main comment was how effiecent the 358 is, lots of power for a little powder. JM

I think the OP has his sighting in taken care of. His point is that the cartridge produces 3100 lb/ft while using only 46 gr of propellant. Yes, that is indeed an efficient cartridge.

i've been shooting one for nearly 20 years .. it is the most effective 3000lber there is .. using nearly his same rig... .. and i shared my experience with the same.. thanks .. why did i ask? bc i wanted to know how HE was using it, thanks .. odd.. your posted (nsaqam) annoyed the heck out of me, for no reason i could explain and not your fault .. i appologize for being rude i built about 10 wildcats to try and match its lb/grain capacity ... 75gr for 5000ftlbs is the closest i could come opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? Yep, the 338 Fed I own a 338 Fed but I'd be equally as happy with a 358, they're peas in a pod, and both are very efficient cartridges.
