It was raining with gusty winds the other day at the range. It was hard to concentrate, but I was able to keep most shots well under 1" at 100yds.

It spits out a 200gr .323 Hotcores at 2900 FPS.

Of all the wildcats, this is one of the best.

Adequate for big bears and tame enough for everyday antlered game.

Never under estimate the internet community's ability to reply to your post with their personal rant about their tangentially related, single occurrence issue.

What I have learned on AR, since 2001:
1. The proper answer to: Where is the best place in town to get a steak dinner? is…You should go to Mel's Diner and get the fried chicken.
2. Big game animals can tell the difference between .015 of an inch in diameter, 15 grains of bullet weight, and 150 fps.
3. There is a difference in the performance of two identical projectiles launched at the same velocity if they came from different cartridges.
4. While a double rifle is the perfect DGR, every 375HH bolt gun needs to be modified to carry at least 5 down.
5. While a floor plate and detachable box magazine both use a mechanical latch, only the floor plate latch is reliable. Disregard the fact that every modern military rifle uses a detachable box magazine.
6. The Remington 700 is unreliable regardless of the fact it is the basis of the USMC M40 sniper rifle for 40+ years with no changes to the receiver or extractor and is the choice of more military and law enforcement sniper units than any other rifle.
7. PF actions are not suitable for a DGR and it is irrelevant that the M1, M14, M16, & AK47 which were designed for hunting men that can shoot back are all PF actions.
8. 95 deg F in Africa is different than 95 deg F in TX or CA and that is why you must worry about ammunition temperature in Africa (even though most safaris take place in winter) but not in TX or in CA.
9. The size of a ding in a gun's finish doesn't matter, what matters is whether it’s a safe ding or not.
10. 1 in a row is a trend, 2 in a row is statistically significant, and 3 in a row is an irrefutable fact.
11. Never buy a WSM or RCM cartridge for a safari rifle or your go to rifle in the USA because if they lose your ammo you can't find replacement ammo but don't worry 280 Rem, 338-06, 35 Whelen, and all Weatherby cartridges abound in Africa and back country stores.
12. A well hit animal can run 75 yds. in the open and suddenly drop with no initial blood trail, but the one I shot from 200 yds. away that ran 10 yds. and disappeared into a thicket and was not found was lost because the bullet penciled thru. I am 100% certain of this even though I have no physical evidence.
13. A 300 Win Mag is a 500 yard elk cartridge but a 308 Win is not a 300 yard elk cartridge even though the same bullet is travelling at the same velocity at those respective distances.

I like that gun, maybe give the grip cap a bit more angle upwards, say to the rear or center of the cheek piece, wherever it looks best..

The 8mm/06 Ackley is and awesome caliber, and has been overlooked by so many in the USA, self included, but I always thought Id have to build myself one someday..It would be a dandy on a small ring action for sure..I guess the .338 Ackley was fancied by the wildcat boys, only thing I can think of...

Nice gun you have there for sure and an elk rifle deluxe.

Perfect. Let us know how that Speer 200 works at 2900 FPS. I recovered only one from my 8x57 which I loaded over the case full of powder where I pulled a 198 Grain Portuguese ball round from to load the Speer into. They were hot but don't know how fast. Shot a big NY whitetail buck right in the chest at 10 yards or so as he was running at me. Recovered it in the skin at his hip up high. He was running up the trail and when he crested the hill where I was crouched, I pressed the trigger. He gave an actual roar and hit the ground right in front of me. Never heard a deer do that before or since.

I Like it a lot!
Very well done!

My only personal experience with an 8mm is my 325 WSM and the ballistics are virtually identical.

It's impressive and hits like the hammer of Thor! I've used mine on elk and African plains game and never a question of what was about to happen when I pressed the button!

You've got me thinking again..which makes my wife nervous!

I've been out in my woods several times but I haven't seen a whitetail worthy of a bullet yet.

We did have some fun smashing watermelons on a rainy day at the range though.

Here's a short little clip that shows the difference between a 160gr .308 30396 Hornady FTX at 2500 fps Mv and the 200gr .323 Speer Hotcore at 2900 fps Mv.

I load my 8X57 with a 60K load of RL-17 behind the 200gr .323 Speer Hotcore. Mv is just a tad over 2700 fps.

The Speer Hotcore at 2900 fps mv is still traveling at 2700 fps @ 100yds so it should give similar performance (@ 100yds) to what the 8X57 load does @ the muzzle.

The year before last I shot a large whitetail buck straight on through the chest @ about 100yds with the 8x57/200gr Hotcore load.

He didn't drop in his tracks, but he went less than 30 yds.

Sure admire that straight stock and generous butt. Bet it really soaks up the recoil. Wonderful rifle.

Even with over 3800'# of Me, it is not unpleasant to shoot, not even from the bench.
