Blair, maybe you remember a guy by the name of Steve Lablester from around early 1990s? He'd go to Africa several times each yr and would sight his rifles at Silverdale. hE had a McMillan stocked custom M70 featherweight style in .270WBY it had a really really wispy thin Tobler 24", but the damn thing would keep cutting the previous hole when shooting groups.

Blair has shot literally 100s of plains game up to and including Eland and Giraffe. He never had much interest in Buffalo and main reason being that he is a guns/ammo nut and with cost of buffalo not enough could be shot to get a meaningful result in terms of projectiles etc. He has used 257 Wby, 7mm STW, 300 RUM, 338 RUM and 358 STA. His vote for best and by a good size margin was 338 RUM with Lapua Naturalis projectiles. The 338RUM (and 358 STA) along with his PH's 375 H&H demonstrated a real gain over 30 calibre. His PH thought the Naturalis were the best bullet he had seen. Blair and his PH became good friends and the PH came to Australia and Blair took him away to have a run with the 22/06. One thing the PH did say was about the deadliest plains game calibre was the 30/378 Wby and factory loads with 180 grain Barnes. Of course they might not be the Barnes X we buy. He has now for the last couple of years replaced his annual African trip with the annual trip to Paris.
