Josh - I'll send you a pm about the bear since were getting off topic with it Hot Core your right about getting back to answeing the question at hand. I think you covered it pritty well. I will ad my personal opinion about the boss system though. I do belive the boss system dose work. I also belive that most of the vibration dampening will be taken care of with proper bedding of the reciver and barrel. If your stock is not properly bedded you might find that adjusting the boss will have a significant positive affect on accuracy. If your metal is properly bedded you will still see a little benifit but not as much. DRSS NRA life AK Master Guide 124

I'm with Big Boar and Roll top. Honestly, people put way too much emphasis on minor velocity increases. Velocity increases give you range but little else on big game. Within 300 yards, there is virtually no difference in killing power between 30-06 and any 300 mag. Dead is dead. Over 300 yards the wind becomes a MAJOR factor and you have to question if the shot it ethical. If you want more killing power, use a bigger bullet. A 338 mag with a 250 grain bullet is a much bigger jump in killing power than 30-06 vs 300 mag. Josh, if you're good enough to shoot Cape Buffalo at 500 yards with your 300 win mag, more power to ya!

Scott, 500 yard cape buffalo point is silly. As to suitability for dangerous game, I used a 375 flanged double rifle on elephant and I haven't made up my mind what I will use when cape buffalo are on the list. Maybe a 450-400 or 470 double. I did however use a 300 win mag single shot on an excellent eland. josh

Eland are tough. I shot my first one with a .308 big mistake ran half way accross the ranch before we found it. The second I shot with a 9.3x74 double. Worked much better. DRSS NRA life AK Master Guide 124

Thanks for the tip. Will be using Barnes, not for the political aspect but rather for the terminal performance. The branching off topic is always a good read
