I have an original 1903 Springfield NRA Sporter that I am preparing to sell, and one gent suggested going through these guys. Who has dealt with them? Are they a low-ball outfit or really on the up-and-up?

About 35 years ago my father took a Baby Nambu in there for an estimate of value. They ended up talking him out of it. Then turned around and listed it for 4 times what they paid him.

If they are only going to handle the transfer I would have no issue.

Bill, a dealer I know who buys guns from estates targets a price of 35 cents on the dollar. So even if you low-balled the price here, you'd be well ahead of the game.

I have only bought from them and they were ok.

But

They gotta make money and the more they pay the higher the cost to their customer... and the longer their money is tied up.

Sell it to the end user and both of you will get a deal.

True most of the time. I'd sell it on GB, AA or GI, or find a fair and honest retailer who will let you set the price and charge about 15%.

had an id-10-t try to tell me a cz 375 hh is worth less than a vz24, "cuz aint no body ever gunna wanna shoot that bigin"

was floored when i told him the only reason i wanted to sell it was that i was building a 458 ...


as i understand things, when "collector" is in the name of anything, that means

take book value

you get offered 1/4, they will pay 1/3, and then they offer for sale at 75-100%, and will take 2/3 ... and for junk, 1/2, all of book value.

being lowballed here doesn't even begin to hurt like what a "Dealer" will offer
