I had the 338-06 built on a pre-64 mod 70 action. I am quite happy with it. I don't think you would go wrong with either if you are looking for something different. The 35 may have more factory loadings available but there are more component 338 bulets (negating handgun bullets). Granted a 338 win mag may be a more practical chambering but who cares . . . I like mine and have fun with it. That is all that really matters.
