Just picked up one of these the other day. Was wondering what your your experiences have been with so far.
Thinking about maybe shooting 140 berger VLD. Anyone have any good loads for the 280?

I'm shooting one, but it's a very recent custom and I've not done much load work up yet. I think I'll use it on a hunt this year if I get some loads worked up. It's called lack of enough hours in the day syndrome. Frowner

Not a big time shooter, but I've had a .280 Rem700 Mountain rifle for seventeen years. I played with a bunch of different bullets and couple of powders. I had good luck with H4831 and IMR4350 with 140-150gr bullets and Varget with the 120's. I sold off all my other bullets and settled on IMR4350 with the Hornady 139 BTSP or 150 Nosler Partition, depending what I'm after. 55gr of this powder with the 139 Hor will give me consistent 1/2" five shot and 3/4" ten shot groups with a hot barrel at 100yds. The antelope I took at 312yds last year was hit 1" from the point of hold. I see no reason to experiment with loads and just practice from position now.

Another vote for 4831 SC. I use 140 gain Accubonds with Federal 210M primers.

I have an old 721 in 7mm-06 that was built back in the 50's. A grain or two less case capacity than the 280. I use H4831 shortcut with 160 Speer Grandslams pushed just below max. Just a great game load. I would like to have a rifle like yours. I am not fond of stainless steel, but that's a good looking rifle.

Finally got around to shooting the 280. Used same as what you said above except I backed the powder off by 2 grains to start as 57 grs is max in Nosler manual. So with 55gr RL 19 and game kings so far getting bullet holes touching. Will try Berger bullets next
