At a weight of 5.8 pounds this very affordable rifle is tempting. I did notive it had a dovetail bolt handle and plastic parts such as bolt shroud and magazine. This would make me concerned about durability. As they sometimes say, "You get what you pay for".

Anyone have experience with this rifle? Any bad stories about breakage?

After the scope mount trouble I had on my T3V in .308. I found it was just too easy to knock the scope out of adj. The plastic did not give me any trouble just looked cheep and was hopeing it never got banged up. I see Ruger has a new look like Tikka rifle I think I would pass on another Tikka

I have a Kimber Montana , 223, stainless/synthetic.Obviously not in the same price range but well made Mauser receiver,Winchester safety ,nice trigger. I'm about to start working on getting better groups with that light barrel. Any hints for that ?

I have had a Tikka T3 lite stainless for about six years in 270WSM. I love it to the point it's all I use. I have killed several elk, a dall sheep, caribou, and a wolf with it. It's amazingly accurate and tough. I've had no problems with the plastic and it gets abused. I didn't use the aluminum ring mounts that came with it. Instead I put on Sako optilock bases and rings. They are solid. Good luck whichever way you go.

I've got an unfluted ultralite T3 in 270WSM and it is not much heavier than that. The magazine is my main bugbear, not just the look but the rattle and limited capacity. I haven't heard it much in the rifle but the spare in my pocket had to be constantly adjusted to keep it quiet.

The rifle seems pretty accurate. My main worry about longevity would be any barrel shooting a round as hot as the 270WSM.

The bolt shroud certainly doesn't inspire confidence but I've always felt Sako a bit offhand in that department, even with their dear stuff. Seeing the range of Lapua components, though, it can't be because Fins don't reload - so maybe I'm just a worry wart.

I think the aluminium mounts may have let me down after a bump last year, and might replace them with steel soon.

Sportsman's Warehouse has them. They are not released anywhere else I know of. They are not on the website either. They are the T-3 but with a fluted barrel saving more weight.

That sounds a bit lighter than I would expect versus the regular stainless lite.

I've had a stainless lite in 308 win for 7 years - it is fantastic. Taken tons of animals and my son used it in South Africa last summer and took 9 awesome trophy animals - including Kudu, Black and Blue Wildebeest all at 250 yards - so much for the 308 not being "enough gun".

Go with a light scope, I have a Weaver 2.5-10x38. I think the Leupold 3-9x36 Ultra-Light would be perfect. Anything bigger or more expensive is a waste of money.

I also upgraded to a Limb Saver pad and a 5 round magazine. I ordered an aluminum bolt shroud from Hinterland.

Nah, I'm fine with the Tikka. It already has enough Brett finger prints and drool on it to pass the test. Big Grin
