I take my lab on backpack trips. Last year I took him on a five day hunt and had him carry all his needed stuff/gear in a Kelty Chuckwagon. Even though he ate lots of camp meat/scraps and drank from streams, he carried dry food and a small water bladder plus various items needed for his care. I did not use him as a pack animal though.

I've got a 55lb english setter and he always comes along when we go backpacking. He usually carries all his food, two liters of water, and whatever few extra things he may need. the only thing he carries of mine is a water bottle.

I have a 120 lb. GSP/Lab mix that thinks it's the coolest thing ever to carry a pack. He get's very excited whenever he sees it and waits to get saddled like a horse.

I want to make a waterfowling pack he can carry snacks, shotgun shells, and a couple dozen goose shell decoys with the stakes.
