Im trying to put a light weight rig together for a pack in deer and bear hunt this summer/fall and would like to use build it on the encore but need know the weight of the frame and hinge pin only. If anyone could do this for me I would appreciate it. Kitchen type food scales are usually fine for this. Patrick

Mine comes in at 1lb-7oz. I still gotta wonder what you all have to get so bent over the weight of stuff. I see alloy bases and all sorts of stuff out there but I figure if I want it to last and to be durable I will get what works best and deal with having to carry the extra pound or two. Good luck.

If you really want light weight, get a old style Contender with .45-70 barrel. Mine weighs in at 6 lbs, with scope. It has a Rynite stock. I have to agree with the other poster that it isn't the weight of the rifle that gets you, it is the weight of all the other stuff. It is the other stuff that enables you to get the rifle to the game and get the game to the house.

Thanks for the info But I disagree on the importance of light weight versus unneccesary heavy rifles for high mt pack trips. I have a friend that may be useing a ruger no.1 at 10#. The Encore setup I will be useing weighs 5lb-9.75oz 16" 308 AI tapered bbl w/duo mts 1-8oz frame 1-8oz burris 2-7 13.25oz stock/forend 1-12.5 another friend has a custom bolt action switch barrel that weighs 5-6oz but cost him over 2000. I think I like the Encore Carbine.

I am doing much the same thing but went with a Contender frame to save weight. One barrel in .375 JDJ at 20" with 4x leupold runs just under 6 lbs and with 21" 6.5 JDJ and 3-9 leupold compact runs about 6.25-6.5 haven't weighed it yet. Stock is home made out of a piece of Quilted maple. I really feel like I have all my bases covered currently, but I will probably upgrade to a G2 frame once they become more readily available and the prices come down a little. I gave some consideration to moving up the the encore for cartridges with a little more horsepower ie. 6.5x284, but instead I just stick the rangefinder in my pocket and hold accordingly. I don't really shoot long range so my current combo should work well. I will really get to wring it out next season but right now I am very happy with it.

biathalonman, I agree with you on the contender to save weight. Last fall I took my 15" 6mm bower and built a T/C style stock out of some maple butcher block then added a leupold 3-9 compact for a really light compact deer rifle. To make it legal I sent it back to get a 2" muzzle brake it now weighs 6lb's. I probably wouldn't of gone the route of the Encore except a friend of mine decided to upgrade to some other custom barrels so he gave me a 16" 35 whelen unfired,15"257 Roberts imp and a 15"308 win imp barrels w/scopes,forends and dies to boot. All I need now is a frame before bear season and Im set. I think I might owe him a hunting trip
