RWSEM, We know something that the Freedom lovers don't, you can't beat the BFR's. I have two, .475 and 45-70 and would love to have the .500 but alas, no more money. That is one beautiful gun you have there!

are you going to seat bullets out farther to take advantage of the cylinder length???

The Mag-na-brake was worth it. The pistol no longer tries to twist out of my hand w/ the heavy loads and recoil is reduced by 30-40%, I'd say. I settled on the Elite 3200 scope since the eye relief doesn't change as you increase the magnification. It's a constant 20" and there is no change in POI from 2 to 6 power. I'm really happy with this set up. Now I just need to figure a way to holster it.....

I don't know that I'll mess around w/ much more load development for the 275 gr. XPBs. I'm happy w/ the group size of just over 1 inch. I have some 370gr. Oregon Trail Hard Casts that I need to disassemble and "do-over". They're clocking in at an ave of 2130 fps and just aren't very fun to shoot after the first or second one....

My BFR in 500 mag was sent to Mag-na-port also, and I had them put 4 ports and cut the barrel to 6 inches. It likes the 370 gr, cast bullets I get from Montana bullet works. I took a black bear last year with it. Makes large holes in bowling balls at 75 yards. I have a Ultra-dot red dot sight on it and hogue grips. I love the BFR.

I don't holster my big one like the 45-70 BFR. I drilled and tapped the rear, bottom of the butt and installed a long sling swivel stud. It needs a spacer the thickness of the grip. I cut the grip to go around the spacer (1/4" OD.) and put a self locking nut inside the grip frame and epoxied it. This way the stud can't move or unscrew. All you can see is the end of the stud sticking out. I bought the 6' utility sling from Midsouth and two sling swivels. With the strap across my neck and one swivel hooked to the butt, it hangs right at my hand. When I kill a deer, I adjust the strap and hook the second swivel to a barrel band and sling the gun across my back. This leaves both hands free to drag.
I installed studs on all of my revolvers even if holstered in a shoulder holster. When shooting I can push the gun tight against the strap giving me a steady hold. The strap is great in a tree stand too because the gun is always slung and I won't drop it even if I doze off.

How can you stay awake? I even dozed off when a buck spotted me and was trying to stare me down. (I got him too.)
I have fallen asleep in a tree in PA when soaking wet from rain that turned to snow and coated me and my bow with an inch of ice. Went from 55 degrees to 15 in a few hours. Funny thing is that I hear everything and a deer walking will pop my eyes open.

Now that is definatly an awsome gun. What's your total weight?
I have a 10" 45-70 and 6.5" 475. The one thing that I don't like is the grips. When it's cold out and I don't have a glove on, the rough surface hurts when I shoot it. I have a Houghe Mono-grip on a couple of my other guns and really do like them. I picked one up for Ruger SBH, and it looks like it will probably fit with some dremmel work. I wish they would make one that fit though.

I've been out of the net for awhile. Moved to El Paso these last two weeks; I'm not certain what the total weight is right now. I left the pistola w/ the wife while your tax dollars send me to the Sergeants Major Academy.
I've got a 275 gr. Barnes load worked up right now that I think will be just right for deer this winter- I'll let you know. I also have a box of 370 gr. Oregon Trail boolits that I'm playing with. Haven't worked my way up the scale any further.
