I was out shooting my 7.5 redhawk this morning just got done shooting a nice 4 inch 12 shot 40 yard group. From what would be call a standing strong hand barricade postition.

I was moving up to do some closer in double action work.

I then was having trouble closing the cly I figure well a high primer. Felt each round and none of the primers felt high. Then proceeded to take each round out and tried closing the cly still no luck.

Then I tried empty cly it still would not closed properly. Then I started looking for other things. Dirt ect. It only had about 60 rounds through it from last good cleaning.

I couldn't see any amount of build up to be causing the trouble.

As I tried opening and closing the cly it seemed the trouble was coming from the front cly lock area. So I started looking hard at that area. I couldn't see anything but the lock seemed to be operating a little bit hard.

So I cleaned the whole gun again and sprayed the front lock area down as much as I could.

Using a spray can straw to force spray into and out the tight areas.

Well that took care of the problem never did see anything come out onto the cleaning rag.

But a little bit of something must have built up or got into the front lug locking area. Not allowing it to retrack enough to allow proper operation.

Shot another 4 clys full with out trouble.

Just a little info if something like this happens to you.

I've run into that issue with my S&W 460 when the ejector rod backed out a few turns from the crane/cylinder assembly. Took me a bit of time to figure out what it was. No issues since.

It is quite common for unburned kernels of powder to find their way under the ejection star or as previously stated; the ejector rod to back out. glad you got it going again.

I have had ejector rods back out on other rugers and smiths. Others get dirty ect.

But this was the frist time I had a red hawk front lock jam up.
