Did some chronographing with bfrshooter today, and thought you all might find the results interesting (at least on some level.... Big Grin). The weather was good -- bottom 70s, and the two weapons used were a 6.5-inch M29 .44 magnum, and my custom .475 Linebaugh Ruger Super Redhawk.

We tested handloads and factory offerings in both calibers. The results are as follows:

.44 Remington Magnum

Handload - 22 grains 296 with 277 grain Ranchdog bullet
- 1,327 fps
- 1,330 fps
- 1,311 fps
- 1,318 fps
- 1,312 fps

Handload - 22 grains 296 with 280 grain homemade bullet
- 1,212 fps
- 1,215 fps
- 1,178 fps
- 1,232 fps
- 1,205 fps

Handload - 21.5 grains 296 with 330 grain homemade bullet
- 1,235 fps
- 1,237 fps
- 1,201 fps
- 1,161 fps
- 1,208 fps
- 1,246 fps
- 1,215 fps
- 1,228 fps
- 1,235 fps

Double Tap 320 grain WFN
- 1,162 fps
- 1,175 fps
- 1,138 fps
- 1,148 fps
- 1,160 fps

.475 Linebaugh

Hornady 400 grain XTP
- 1,250 fps
- 1,260 fps
- 1,230 fps
- 1,228 fps

Buffalo Bore 420 grain LFN
- 1,333 fps
- 1,364 fps
- 1,377 fps
- 1,368 fps
- 1,373 fps

Buffalo Bore 440 grain WFN
- 1,336 fps
- 1,353 fps
- 1,343 fps
- 1,321 fps
- 1,340 fps

Handload - 26.5 grains 296 with 420 grain homemade bullet
- 1,329 fps
- 1,325 fps
- 1,332 fps
- 1,314 fps
- 1,318 fps

Buffalo Bore .480 Ruger loads -- 410 grain WFN
- 1,212 fps
- 1,210 fps
- 1,173 fps

Note: Bullets designated as "homemade" are cast from molds designed and made by bfrshooter.

I didn't mean to mislead, but that target was shot a number of months ago, not today. Had some technical difficulties with the optics on the .475......I'll post separately........

Take note of the velocity difference between 2 boolits of the same weight in the .44. The difference is because the RD boolit goes very deep in the case while my boolit has a long nose. Even so, both group almost the same.
The surprise was the weak performance of the Hornady factory .475 loads, not any better then the .480. Not that anything shot with it would notice but it does change the trajectory for long range.
The BB loads sure don't grow any moss on them! dancing
