boom stick458 bone crusher with 500 s+w brass
http://www.singleactions.com/450Bonecrusher.pdf
would it not make sense to make a revised 458 bone crusher on the 500 s+w case???
lee, what do you think???
p.s. also what about cutting the 405 win to 1.4" and 1.6" for a maximum???
maybe reduce the rim to 41 rem size. the 1.4" wont be much diff but you could shoot rifle bullets in the 1.4" version and pistol in the 41 maximum aka 405 win 1.6"
for the bfr a 2.1" version would be neet but not much diff imho than the 444

Lee MartinYa, you could do it on a 500 S&W case. The round didn't exist when I did the Bonecrusher, so I went with the Linebaugh. One thing to note though is that at 1.4", you'll loose a little case capacity with the S&W. Not much, but the Linebaugh is a little fatter.
As for a 1.4" or 1.6" .405 Win in 10mm or .410", they already sort of exist. My .401 Bobcat at 1.40" is nearly the same in terms of dimensions and the .414 SuperMag handles the 1.60" length.

boom stickthanks for the info...
so you would lose maybe 25 fps at the same preasure but the 500 version could be loaded much hotter loads cuzz of the strength of brass maybe an extra 75 fps but no need for that. is that about right?
i think the 450 bone crusher is an awesome round and maybe a bottleneck 500 s+w version might get it some more attention cuzz of brass.
call it the 45
8 bone crusher
sales pitch is 45-70 power in a packable pistol

Lee MartinOne thing to consider is that on a 5-shot Blackhawk, you're not going to want to go over 40,000 PSI (the cylinder walls are thin with the big 500's).
Also, unless you're going with a really long barrel, you can only burn so much powder in an 7 - 8" tube. The one advantage that the Linebaugh has over the S&W is you don't have to trim cases. In fact, the Bonecrusher is formed by a single pass thru the sizing die.

boom sticklee...have you done any load development with 400 or 405 grainers??? maybe 1400 fps? call it the bear attention getter load. thats old school 45-70 performance in a potent packable package

p.s.
have you thought about doing a 475 and 480 bone crusher for those who own 480 rugers and 475 linebaughs who want linebaugh+ performance???

boom stickit would be kinda cool to take a 454 cassul and make a 454 bone crusher...just a ream job right???
plenty of those out there...
any cassul owners want 460 s&w+ performance in a smaller package???

You have to be careful with bottlenecks in revolvers, Lee Martin talks about this on his webpage. I have a .357 Magnum Ruger Blackhawk with extra cylinders in .357/44 Bain & Davis and .357 Sig. The .357/44 B&D works great, brass sticks in one chamber but I think it just needs to be polished a little more. No problems with brass backing up and binding the cylinder. Now with the .357 SIG cylinder the brass just falls out but there but the brass does back up during firing. Interesting since the .357/44 is just a wee bit more powerful... I haven't been shooting much lately, I hope to play with this wheelgun more later this month to try and pin the problem down.
