I hope to get a hog hunt going this spring, at which time I'll shoot my 6&3/4" RB. The 300 grn Speer JSP is a fabulous bullet and 32grn's of H-110 will get me up to 1525. I could go faster but that's fast enough..............10

i use a Savage Striker in 223 for ground hogs. but never hunted deer with a handgun in fact this will only be my 2nd year of deer hunting. my may gun this year will be a 300win mag rifle but if i fill my main tag i plan to hunt a small doe or young buck with my S&W 1086 10mm. it has a comped 5" RPM barrel, BoMar sites and was tuned by Novak's. from about any field position i can keep 10rds inside of 4" at 50yds. with the advice i recived from here i'm gona load the 200gr Hard Cast TC bullets. they run 1200fps. i've killed 2 yotes with it and 165gr Rem GS bullets. ------------------

Doug, Yes I have as a matter of fact I broke a Buck knife blade trying to pop a case out at the range one day. It is wierd. When I first got it (1 yr ago last Feb) it did not eject at all. Then the more I used it it started working. Now the first shot at the range ejects 75% of the time after that it is 100%. All in all I like the gun. I bought a .308 barrel for my Encore and traded it fairly quickly because I didn't like dodging the muzzle when it came back. No problem with my LE .358. Sean

Hello, Yukon: Yes, Ruger made a Blackhawk with interchangable cylinders, one in 10mm ACP and one in .38-40 WCF. Like other Blackhawks, it is very strong. I use a C-H cannelure tool to knurl a crimpgroove in the bullets I want to use. I will use Starline cases, because the Winchester or Remington factory brass is too thin for a heavy crimp. This year, I used Speer 180gr. Gold Dot hollowpoints ahead of a stiff but sensible charge of Blue Dot and a magnum primer. Shoots like a bolt of lightning with remarkably little recoil and excellent accuracy. I've not chronographed this load, but think it's around 1,500 feet per second. Bambi came trotting up toward me and I pounded a Gold Dot through his big, wonderful, loving heart at fifty feet, front-on, putting a thumbprint-sized hole right through that organ. He passed away rather rapidly as a consequence and was at the processing-plant within the hour. I understand Ruger now may be making some Vaqueros in .38-40. If the Vaquero trigger can be swapped out with one of the aftermarket kits designed to improve pull, IMO a .38-40 Vaquero very probably would be a worthy alternative to the .38-40 Blackhawk. However, every once in a while I see a .38-40 Blackhawk being sold by an individual through the classified ads in GUN LIST, usually complete with the other cylinder for around $350. A hunter who also reloads his own ammo could hardly find a better hunting revolver, unlikely as it would seem....

Well not this year but next year for sure. its a ruger super blackhawk in 44 mag with a 10 1/2 inch barrel topped with a leupold 2.5x8 using hornady 240 xtp, or speer 240 gt in front of 25 grains of H110 (great for deer or black bear) . i might go to 300 xtp for elk or moose, might.

I'll be right next to you Tanoose with my FA .454 7 1/2" with a 3x6 bushnell elite on top off a hornady 300 grain xtp's loaded with 30.6 gr. of H110. We'll get em next year.

i have a 10mm/38-40 Blackhawk ------------------

I think I'll stick with 10mm ACP terminology, this being the designation on the caseheads of the cartridges which are intended to be used --and a clearer identification for the very unfortunate lads who don't have one of these splendid revolvers! ...I really need to chronograph those loads: they are from the P.O. Ackley book and are among the hottest data I've seen published, possibly excepting an article by Taffin some years ago. They sure work, though....

I took my Buckeye Blackhawk 10MM / .38-40 with the .38-40 cylinder loaded with some warm stuff along with my Winchester Model 92 .38-40 deer hunting this year. A nice combination.
