Which is more powerful the 440 Cor-bon or the 454 Casull I need to know because I want to own the most powerful handgun you can buy so some asshole doesn't come up to me and say he has the most powerful handgun!It sounds dumb but I just want some answers. Thankyou!

I believe taht neither one is the “most powerful handgun”. I am not sure such handgun exists. Why care so much about what other people say? That macho mentality does not prove a thing. Big bore revolvers are good for hunting and they are only good if you can shoot them accurately, assuming the gun is reasonable accurate. If you want to impress other fellow shooters, train your self to a point where you can shoot any handgun whether big or small consistently with a very small and tight grouping. Relax and have fun. I think you miss smth, you ask what is the most powerful caliber between .440 and .454. But the real question is what is the fastest round ?

To reply to your question the most powerful handgun cartridge is the .500 LONG (also called .500 Linebaugh Maximum) you can't find more powerful.

regarding the 2 caliber the .440 Cor bon is just a .50 AE round neck down .429, the .454 has the same velocity thna .440 Corbon but with a bigger diameter. for me it is the .454 casull the fastest round.

If you dont know enough about big bore hand guns to allready know the power level of some of these guns you certainly arent ready to own one yet. Get yourself a .44 mag and shoot 5000 rounds out of it and when the punch that it has with 300+grain hardcast bullets bores you then your ready to move up the ladder. Granted it doesnt take anyone special to shoot these big guns It sure takes a lot of dedication and practice to master one of them.

You need to know that most owners of big bore handguns download it nearly all the time.

Bullets whatever is the caliber and the weight are under 1000 fps.

There is no shame to shoot downloaded rounds out your big bore handguns. I never do it but I think it will be interresting for me to download just a little.

I like the way you think.No one here uses a bigbore to survive or feed on a daily basis so wanting to own the biggest just to say you have got it is no less valid a reason than any other.

HOWEVER, there is no such thing as a free lunch
And here's why.

For every person like yourself who just wants to waltz in and buy up the biggest straight from the shop to impress his friends, there will be another guy who wants to modify it and will take the time and money and hassle to make it even bigger!

So it happens the most powerful 'commercial factory firearms' are always a long way behind the power of the crazy wildcats and custom creations people make.

Compare the 460 weatherby to the 585 nyati for one example.

If you wanted the highest energy "commercial, standard handgun, non rifle cartridge,off the factory floor revolver", yeah the 454 is probably it.

But 'most powerful' hands down?

And then there's that BFR monstrosity in 450 Marlin Mag.

And I believe there are even stouter rounds in custom TCs or XPs.

Go on, get one! I'd rather get one I couldn't handle and download than waste money on one that wasn't powerful enough. And when they finally get this cloning down and the exotics in the private Texas Leases become things like Tyrannosaurs, I'll be glad I did!

All big bore rifle cartridges are great in a 24" barrel. If you use it in a T/C, BFR,... you'll lots of unburnt powder.

Check the velocity out of 6" barrel for .500 Long, and calculate the velocity witha 24" barrel. You'll be surprised to know velocity reach by a .500 long with this barrel.

For lots of shooter the .357 Mag is the max they can handle so why want more and more powerful handguns I don't know.

Gary Reeder is very surprised about the .500 Long ordered to his firm. He told that people can't imagine how is howful to shoot with that gun.

He guesses that a great part of owner of .500 long will sold it after the first shots. I can agree with this point of view.

Hey! How about the Magnum Research, BFR? I think this gun in 45-70 or 444 Marlin trumps all of the above listed round right? There is one in 45-70 at the local gun shop and it is HUGE! Makes my arm ache just looking at it.... Jay

A .450 marlin is available too.

There's handguns all the way up to 50 BMG, 458 win mag and 600 nitro.You can go as far as you want.But for a revolver,staying with a cartridge designed for revolvers gives it some pedigree the way I see it.

Such calibres as the 500 linebaugh take into account the limited barrel length,weight and other restrictions of a revolver whilst trying to acheive maximum power.The others would give limited extra return for a lot of powder and weight gain.

I talked to Gary Reeder and John Linebaugh at the Linebaugh Seminar. When the subject of a 50 Alaskan in a revolver came up they both just laughed. They said that in a handgun most of the powder wouldn't get burned, therefore making it pointless.
