They are six- shot. Target grey w/grey grip inserts like the last ones. Available in 7.5 and 9". They don't show up on rugers website but Lipseys shows them in stock.

Just wonder if it's hold overs.
Be nice if they brought it back in 475/480 5 shot.

You're not kidding -- they would sell 'em like hotcakes -- particularly if they chambered the SBH in .480.

I did not say it was non-existant....just rare. I like Ruger and have many....but they dropped the ball on the RH and SRH by not offering a 5 shot 480/475 cylinder. Chalk it up as a missed opportunity.

Not to stray too far, but...I'm not a real Ruger fan; however, one time I counted up the firearms in my safe and I had more Rugers than any other single maker. Kind of fudged because I had the grandkid's 10/22s and Ruger makes both handguns and long guns.

I think Ruger did miss the target by dropping the 5 shot 480 program, not letting people know the LH SS 375 was out, and not making a LH SS .416

Leonard, good point, except that S&W has, at various times had it's name on rifles and shotguns. The S&W 3000 Super Skeet was a fine gun!
Beretta too. Remington now has a 1911, and also has a shotgun line which a long time ago included the Rem 3200, another fine Skeet gun! I'm sorry but these are private companies that are in business to make money. Their success or failure is based on that criteria alone. S&W and Ruger are doing a pretty darn good job of this!

One can't compare SW buying a howa or other maker's gun and rebranding it to Ruger doing the dev, prototyping, and creation of ALL their guns.. there's not a single ruger rebrand out there, unlike the SW 1500 (Howa)...

I would like to see a HUNTER 5 shot, unfluted, ruger, in just 45LC .. adjustable sights, 4 and 6" versions .. rings are fine, but want fine iron sights .. and trim, like the 44mag hunter model ... I'd also probably take one in 480, though my heart truely belongs to the 45LC as a centerfire pistol ...

just me..

I failed to make my point. I have so many Rugers because they often make guns to fill a certain nitch that other makers ignore. By doing that they own that nitch market.

Ruger has all the money invested in the 5 shot 480 project. The only way to get the investment back is to produce and sell enough guns to cover the costs. The 480 is a nitch gun and I think they would sell more than enough of them to recover their R&D costs. I don't think it will ever be in the top 3 of sales, but it would have a loyal following and I'm sure small runs of the gun would sell out quickly.

Well jeffe, if I was Ruger I would certainly NOT produce the 45Colt to your specs. Just not enough of a market out there. Most guys want BIGGER! Bragging rights, you know! In the end, the market will decide!

Peter,

Ruger did make the 45LC Hunter model. It had a 7.5" barrel and I kick myself every time I see a hunter model on the shelf at any gun store. I am like Jeffe that the 45LC is where my heart is when it comes to revolvers.

Palladin, I am not "dissing" the 45LC. I own one! A Ruger Stainless Steel with 4 5/8" barrel I believe. I love it. My point was that I did not think it was as popular a gun as the larger calibers to the general gun buying public.

the 45 hunter offered was a super blackhawk .. not my fav ..
Peter, you are probably right .. though the 5 shot hunter approach, at least like the raging bull, kind of appeakls to me, LESS the porting and overlong barrel.

I find I don't care for the 454... because i AM a sissy about handgun recoil.. I find 250gr at 1000-1200fps to be more than enough for me .. or 300s at 900 .. they just plain old work ...

the ruger redhawk, in 45LC, is a bankvault .. and i don't want to carry a bank vault around.

This is the concept -

it happens to be in 480, thought .. I like 4" barrels!

When custom gunsmiths are making a bundle on converting Ruger Single Action guns to .480 and .475 you would think that the marketing people in Southport would "get it"...no one wanted a GIANT DOUBLE Action .480...they want a compact single action...

A 5 shot Super Blackhawk in .480 would sell....

I was going to have a .475 Linebaugh Freedom Arms 83 chopped down. However, the gunsmiths have priced it high enough so I will eventually end up buying either a BFR, or Ruger if they ever get around to it. Pretty much cheaper then having the 757 modified.
Problem is, I've got nearly 1000 rounds of .475 Linebaugh on the way, so a .480 isn't what I'm after.
The odd part is the loads are a LOT like the .480 loads, 325's at 1350 fps.

A 5 shot super blackhawk, with a 5" barrel would be awesome.

You can get a BFR in .475 Linebaugh right around $800.00 brand new.....perfect place to start IMO.

Kind of hoping one of these days I'll find a used one, or CDNN will have a .500 dollar sale, now that I've got some money...

That is one of my choices if I don't go custom

Lipsey's has 25 .480 Super Redhawks available at a "discounted" price. It's not my place to say how much they cost but contact your dealer as the "dealer cost" advertised is *way* under $600! Heck, I'm tempted to get a backup at that price!
