I hate buying bullets being on a fixed income. I love cast and started making my own molds to save money. I can shoot all year cheap.
Hard cast works to perfection in some revolvers but it is still a learning curve as I change guns. Even at 72, I have to keep learning from mistakes.
Someone on another site posted an age old theory about boolit "Dwell" time in an animal. It put this problem in perspective for me. Funny I was thinking the same thing before I read that post.

As we've discussed, you are severely overmatching the load/bullet to the game. I'd make Marko buy you a can of Trail Boss now that he's gainfully employed and just try it for s & gs with your cast bullets. I'm finding it to very consistent with the loads I'm trying, basically all the .500 Linebaugh rounds with the 450s.

MS Hitman,
What is your 500 Linebaugh load with the trail boss?

Alex,

I have the mold for the 450 Keiths as well as a 450 LFN. My bullets are pretty much the same as Mt. Baldy except the base on my bullets are 0.020" shorter than Frank's. 11.0 grains shot fairly well, but it takes 12.0 grains to seal the case and prevent gas entering around the chamber. I'm chronographing loads around the 800 fps mark, just under actually. This is over the max load posted by IMR, but works in my revolver. Each use it at your own risk.

Yea I figured that. I will have to play with it also. I want to try it in a few of my handguns just to see how it does.

Well MS, the problem is that I will not give up the super accuracy I get with my BFR. I could slow the boolit but it does me no good if I lose confidence in being able to hit what I shoot at.
This is the most accurate revolver I have ever shot in my life and I just can't let that go.
So the easiest thing is to make the boolit different. Even if I have to soften them and add a hollow point, they will still group.
A powder change is out of the question. 4759 will make ANY bullet/boolit shoot out of this gun.
I have all year to perfect a boolit!

Thank you sir!

I too wouldn't mess with it, bfrshooter. That damn thing is more accurate than it has a right to be! Big Grin

bfr,

It's just Alex and me hijacking your thread. I've already come to grips with you softening that bullet up.
