blow the 45-70 case out straight and stuff with 475 bullets...worth doing???

Might be! You could get high velocity with lower pressure then the Linebaugh. Be expensive with a new barrel and cylinder. I would not use anything shorter then 10" either.

the best thing would be to get them to put a 475 barrel on it and send the cylinder to a smith so the only charge is the cylinder smithing...how much can that be...OH and CHEAP brass all the way down to 15 cent up to 50 cent a piece

Old news Wink,Gary Reeder did it in 87-88? 475GNR I have one in a TC Encore.It probably will work in a BFR.

Yes, we know it has been done but I don't think anyone has done the revolver which is what we were talking about.
To think about it, every single caliber has had it's case shortened, twisted, mashed, stretched and expanded into something else. It has been a great thing for all of us.

I've never held or seen one, but I've heard tales of revolvers being chambered for the .50-70.

the 475-70 is great cuzz of all the great bullets and extra (like you need it) power or powder room

the appealing thing about this is how easy it would be on a bfr and if you liked the 475 bullets

here is a quote from the 475 gnr

"Next up is our 475 GNR. (compared to a .475 Llinebaugh) This one we developed back in 1987 for the Contender. It is a 45-70 blown out straight and with a 475 caliber bullet seated in it. It puts a 430 gr. LBT bullet out at 2000 fps and has been used extremely well on Cape Buffalo, Bison, and Australian Buffalo. Best in the Encore or in a Marlin 1895 rifle rebarreled. Brass is available."

Saw a 45/70 5 shot rev at a Houston gun show in
73 or so. Weighed a ton. Do not know who made
it. I have not seen the new ones in person.

You could easily do a .475 JDJ or .475 GNR on a BFR. I've been doing the .50 Alaskan and .500 Martin on that frame for a few years now and it works fine (recoil is another story however).
