TemboHow can a city ban something guaranteed by the US Constitution? It will be overturned.

MarcFI'm across the bay from SF and monitoring the situation. My understanding is that a lawsuit has been filed and I hope to get a copy of it. If there is any interest I'll report on the arguments and the status of the litigation as it develops. The Mayor, Gavin Newsome, voted in favor of the ordinance, but also commented that he didn't think it would withstand judicial scrutiny.

Hunt4LifeShould ban all the flamers, leave handguns alone.
Of course I guess with the series of drive buy "hair stylings", action must be taken.

Lowrider 49If the damn kids keep shooting up the schools none of us will have ANY guns. The anti gun libs get more ammo to further their cause everytime that happens.
NRA can't do it alone!! We all need to do our part to inform the uninformed who get swept up in the anti-gun ferver following these shootings. Most of these anti-gunners don't know why the guns should be banned, they just get on the bandwagon and follow the crowd blindly. We gotta turn them around if we want to continue to pursue our sport!!

bfrshooterYou can NOT change a liberals mind on any subject. I have neighbors that are college liberals (They let me hunt and shoot and I have taught some to shoot. So thank goodness they are not anti gun.) But they will not read anything that goes against their beliefs and no amount of talk or argueing will change their minds. They eagerly seek out only what they want to read to reinforce only what they want to hear.
If this ban stands in LA, the crime rate will soar and they will be worse off then DC and Australia. I can picture the drug lords and criminals giving each other the "high five" and heading there to do business. The only solution is for all the gun owners to move out and let the city turn into a slum. I would move before giving up my rights!

bfrshooterMaybe thats why the fault line is where it is, when it gets too bad, Kalifornia will just break off and vanish.

hikerbumNew York City has had an extremely restrictive limitation (not a total ban) on handguns for years. A valid NY state permit holder cannot take a handgun into NY city without special permission (i believe from the chief of police?)

SabotAnybody know if they are paying fair market value for the confiscated handguns? This is a big problem for cities, as it is VERY clear that you cannot take any kind of property without paying fair market value.

tpdtomAll I can say is thank God I live in Michigan . I've been grateful to live in the USA and Michigan many times and being an owner of 35+ handguns I'm disgusted but not really surprised at the ban . The NRA is challenging the ban in court as I understand it , saying it's in conflict with California law or their constitution. Pray for the law abiding gun owners of CA and recruit a new NRA member...Tom

I will hang out in Texas and be thankful i can.
In Texas, only the state can pass gun laws. Cites etc, can only pass matching law so say Dallas can not outlaw Hand guns. Not that they would.

MS HitmanI am sure there are decent people who live in each area, but I've not lost a thing in either San Francisco nor New York City and have no intentions of traveling to either.
If ignorance is bliss; there are some blissful sonofaguns around here. We know who you are, so no reason to point yourselves out.
