I just ordered a STI Perfect 10 (Semi-auto, 6" barrel, 15 round mag) pistol.

Any recommendation on GOOD factory or hand loads?

What do you plan on hunting with it?

Hogs and whitetail; more of a backup

Double Tap has a whole line of great 10mm ammo. They have a 200 grain WFN that would do the trick in spades.

Wow 1,300 FPS, pretty stout!

Not an expert on hunting pistol bullets; I see hollow point, fmj, and WFGNC.

Do the WFGNCs work best? I want big holes in big pigs.

Penetration is the name of the game and the WFN will give you plenty.

Approach these with the usual caution. My accuracy loads are also the loads I would use for hunting:
8.2 grains Longshot 200 grain JFP
11.8 grains AA#9 200 grain cast lead.
These were tested in my EAA Witness Elite Match in 10mm.
Peter.

What velocity did you see with these loads, Peter?

I've used Longshot to push a 200gr xtp to 1200fps in my 5" 1911. Expanded (judging from the 1" exit wound) and passed through the ribs on a 250ish pound black bear. Really wanted to recover the bullet and saw the strike in the dirt just behind the critter, but after over a foot of digging, I gave up. My point is, it opened and sailed through 16-18" of bear and still had a good head of steam left. Enjoy your new 10, Nick

- Corbon Bonded Core 180gr

- Double Tap XTP 180gr

- Winchester 175gr Silvertip

All will get the job done.

Marko, I believe that I was getting 1200 fps but I will have to go back and check. If not I just loaded up some JFP's with that powder. However, my chrono is on the fritz so I don't know how reliable it is. I may have to send it back.

Marko, chronographed my 8.2 gr, Longshot load (200 gr. JFP) today. The average was 1206 with a 20 fps max spread for a 5 shots.
Peter.

So far I have used a max load of Blue dot with 200gr XTP to achieve approx. 1250fps out of my Kimber Stainless Target II. I haven't developed a good load yet with the 200gr hard cast bullets I have cast. If I had the time to develop a load I would do it as the 10mm is by far my favorite walking around pistol.

That's a pretty stout load, Peter! How does it shoot?

I think I have posted this picture before:

25 yards from MTM pistol rest.
The lead load is very accurate as well but seems to chrono at a little over 1000 fps. and was inconsistent as well (in terms of velocity)
