Everybody likes new gun day and everybody like pictures. So here they are.
I've been searching for a Ruger Superblackhawk Hunter in 45 Colt for a long time.
Everytime I find one...it's crazy expensive, so I had to just wait.
Well, years later I finally found one.
I work part time at Cabelas and we got one in!!!
With my discount I was out the door for $460...I think I did pretty good for a brand new gun.
Here's what it looked like when I got her home:

After alot of research and inputs I have this to put on it:

So I'm pretty happy. Hope to get some trigger time this weekend!!

Nice.

I much prefer to have the scope mounted on the barrel as opposed to in the frame. It makes for a much more compact package.

Also you can take the scope of very quick and still have your iron sights.

I would like the red dot on the barrel also. But I though I would give this try or mount a Burris on it later using the scope mounts. It's a little heavier, but that may be nice if heavier loads get used, time will tell.
I bought the Weigand base because folks said the scope spacing wouldn't fit the Matchdot.

Excellent find and a great price too!
The 45 Colt is about my favorite caliber, I've wanted one for awhile now, but they are scarce indeed.
Great find.

I can't speak directly to the .45 hunter model, but I have one in 44 mag and it is scary accurate.

You lucky so and so. I kick myself every time I think about not buying the .45Colt Bisley hunter instead of the Anniversary Bisley.

Well, I took her out today and shot about 50rnds. My best 6rnd group I could cover with my hand. Not the best shooting but I could hunt with it. I've got to work on my trigger control for sure, I caught myself jerking some. I'm using 250grn XTPs with 20grn of H110. I'll work on some load development also.

Jeffe -- they made very few of the Hunter models in .45 Colt -- unfortunately. I have one in .44 mag and it's one of the most accurate out-of-the-box revolvers that I shot.

i put the same scope on my 629 but spaced the rings out a little more than you did amid dire warnings from an "expert" on a diff. site not to use the scope body housing(?)as a stop but upon recoil the scope would move forward so i titened the rings a little more but it still travelled. i called ultra dot and the guy said to do it just like you did, w/the rings up against the scope body(?) that using it as a stop wouldn't hurt it a bit. worked great and continues to.

(late post) Ammohouse, your SBH Hunter looks great, especially with the Matchdot. I have only shot my new Bisley Hunter a little, but it works well. How do you find the stock trigger?

I think the stock trigger kinda sucks. But just like any gun, I need to shoot it awhile before I start playing with it. Just to give it time to break in.

Unfortunately due to family problems I didn't get to hunt much this year. I guess I'll have to chase prairie dogs with this instead.

My Bisley Hunter had a terrible trigger out of the box as well.

I am jealous. I too have been looking for a .45LC hunter model for many years. I would prefer the Bisley hunter but would settle for the blackhawk.
Congrats on the nice looking pistol and I do believe a range report is in order with.... you guessed it PICS!!!

I converted my 45 Colt Bisley Hunter into a Reeder full custom in 455GNR, which is a 475 Linebaugh necked down to the 45 caliber. A very powerful and useful rig now. They are kinda hard to find...it took me about a year until one came along.

A rough new trigger can be smoothed up some rather easily.
Unload the gun
cock the hammer
put forward pressure on the hammer, then pull the trigger.
repeat 30-40 times(ish)

This will help to smooth out any rough burrs.
It's not as good as stoneing and polishing the sear surfaces, but it will do some good. I do this with all of my new revolvers and also drop one leg of the trigger spring.(Ruger and BFR...)
