It is not a pistol but a Ruger PC4 carbine in 40 S&W.It is equal to a 10 mm in a pistol and adds 200 fps to the 40 S&W making it equal to 10 mm pistols. Its fun as heck and seems to be pretty powerful.I is very accurate also.I though of using 180 gr Hornady XTPs or Winchester 175 gr silver tips.I would be limiting shots to 50 yards.I think this carbine is just plain fun to shoot.I think its powerful enough to kill deer to 50 yards or less .I just wondered if anyone had used the 10mm on deer at all.I have shot this carbine to 100 yards and its shot under 2" with a scope. It was mostly for law enforecment to take along with a 40 S&W pistol.I think if more had been sold to the public it would still be made.If you see one under $500 buy it you wont be sorry.I am going to try it on hogs too.Its a built on the same size as the Ruger 1022 just a little heavier.

Double Tap Ammo has some good .40 Smith loads that I think would work well. Go check out their website: www.doubletapammo.com

the original 10mm loads were claimed to be deer guns to 100 .. myself, i'v taken pigs with it at 40 -- head shots with said 10mm .. neat grey hole.

if you can shoot 3" at 100, you can take a deer with a GOOD load .. shot placement will have to be VERy good.

i reload .. wouldn't even think of buying factory ammo and using it, without a chrony ...

i have no answer, other than get a good bullet and drive it at least 1300fps to match a 10mm .. in your carbine, that should be easy

I would try to stay away from the hollow point ammo and look at a JSP or flat nose for better penetration if it's needed.

Sounds like a great gun. Let us know how it worked. And post pics Smiler

You could get a mech tec carbine in 460 Rowland. 44 mag performance and less expensive than a PC4

180 grain winchester bonded would be my first choice. I would expect any 180 grain hollow point to do well as long its not rapid expansion stuff.

My buddy and I used 9mms on deer before and we used 147 Rem golden Saber and 147 Winchester Black talons. Both where one shot 25 yard pass throughs and both deer ran a few steps and dropped. Pretty much anything with more power than this I would expect to easily take deer.
