Just wanting to know the pro's and cons of each of these calibres and why people prefer them. On paper the 10mm looks to be a lot better round.

quote:PC, are you talking about them as hunting sidearms or just target and plinking. For plinking, the 45 is better IMHO simply because ammo is more readily available and cheaper. For target, I would say exactly the same thing. For hunting, I have not hunted with a 10mm, but I have actually hunted a LOT with a .45 ACP. The .45 will kill about anything...but for varmints like rabbits etc. it needs a good hollow point bullet to kill quickly. Otherwise it just knocks them off their feet and sometimes it takes a minute or two for them to actually expire. Something like a good hot 200 gr HP changes this equation rapidly. The ONLY advantages IMHO with a 10mm is it's faster and flatter trajectory...which can simplify some shots....assuming you can shoot and hit rabbit sized targets beyond say 30 yds.

PC, For me the .45 ACP is better regarding accuracy, reloading products for this caliber are cheap. The 10mm is good for hunting.

not worrying about the cost of ammo, which btw, a lot of us dont worry about. the 10mm is a fabulous hunting round ! over the last 15 years I have killed numerous hogs and whitetails from 50lbs to over 200lbs using the factory loaded 175gr silvertip. spend some time over at http://www.glocktalk.com/ , they have a 10mm forum there, you will gain a lot of respect for the round...

10mm all the way - fbi slow loads to punch paper and full power rock&roll loads for hunting lots of load data if need it

I own both. I have two .45's in the 1911 style, and a 1006 S&W. The 1006 is stock, but it puts 3 rds. into 3/4 of an inch @ 25 yds. Even my Kimber .45 won't quite do that. It's too bad the 1006 in no longer made. They also do a much better job of managing recoil than the 1911 style guns do in the 10 mm round. The 10 is more powerful, and does shoot flatter. Try plus/minus 2 inches all the way to 110 yds. I really like the .45 for small stuff, target shooting, and plinking. The 10 mm is a big game round. And it will reach like a magnum. E
