10mm V .45 ACP
Just wanting to know the pro's and cons of each of these calibres and why people prefer them.
On paper the 10mm looks to be a lot better round.
PC,
For me the .45 ACP is better regarding accuracy, reloading products for this caliber are cheap.
The 10mm is good for hunting.

<Bily Lovec>not worrying about the cost of ammo, which btw, a lot of us dont worry about.

the 10mm is a fabulous hunting round ! over the last 15 years I have killed numerous hogs and whitetails from 50lbs to over 200lbs using the factory loaded 175gr silvertip.
spend some time over at
http://www.glocktalk.com/ , they have a 10mm forum there, you will gain a lot of respect for the round...

<Gunner>I personally am very fond of the 45 ACP as a defensive and plinking round, much more so than the 10mm. Why? I don't know, except that it just plain works.
The 10mm would probably have the edge based on flexibility (load soft shooting 40 S&W equivalent rounds for defense and hot handloads for hunting), and accuracy. The most accurate factory out of the box pistol I ever owned was a Glock 20; 10-12 shouts out of 15 would ring an 8" gong plate at 75 yards all the time. My Colt Delta Elites, gun for gun, were more accurate and reliable than my many lamentably piss poor Colt 45s...
If you like 10mm and are willing to handload, go for it. I'm sure you won't be sorry...
Regards,
Kevin

EremicusI own both. I have two .45's in the 1911 style, and a 1006 S&W.
The 1006 is stock, but it puts 3 rds. into 3/4 of an inch @ 25 yds. Even my Kimber .45 won't quite do that. It's too bad the 1006 in no longer made. They also do a much better job of managing recoil than the 1911 style guns do in the 10 mm round.
The 10 is more powerful, and does shoot flatter. Try plus/minus 2 inches all the way to 110 yds.
I really like the .45 for small stuff, target shooting, and plinking. The 10 mm is a big game round. And it will reach like a magnum. E
