Help me out, my wife and I were having a discussion on how many 44 mag revolvers one should own. John

I had 4 at one time, 2 S&W and 2 Rugers. I prefer the 45 Colt, 480 Ruger, 454 Casull, 475 Linebaugh, 510 GNR and 500 Mag. Sure I have a few 357 Mags, a 410 GNR, but no more 44 Mag, revolvers. I do how ever have a Encore 12 inch postol barrel, don't use it much either. So I cound not vte, you did not have Zero.. If you're going to make a hole, make it a big one. I expect a case can be made for a belt gun, a purposefully prepared hunting revolver, and a barrel for a fella's Contender or Encore. Strictly speaking I suppose none of these pistols need be a 44 magnum if the slots are filled by pistols chambered for the 41 magnum, 44 special (where legal for big game), or 45 Colt.

I have 5 revolvers in 44mag and don't think that is too many. 3 DA - 2 Colt Anaconda's and a custom Reeder Nighthawk, and 2 SA - a Ruger SS Super Blackhawk w/4-5/8" bbl and a Reeder custom SS Ruger Bisley Hunter. That among many others all across the caliber board from 22RF and 22 K-Hornet to 500 S&W and need has no part to play.

I am currently down to two that I will always own -- both have been with me for a long time and I have intention of ever getting rid of them. That said, I have my eye on a couple more that my brother-in-law has........ Can you ever have too many? "Ignorance you can correct, you can't fix stupid." Maybe the question should be "How many should she know about?" Hopefully she's not reading this. Tell her you have two and if she's like my wife she won't know the difference between the bigger revolvers. ________________________________________________ Never met a Colt I didn't like.

Technically, I don't own any. My wife, however, has a 629 with a nickel finish and an 8ish inch barrel. She looks pretty hot shooting it too.

Although I am a Ruger guy, just one. A S&W Perf Center. It has the best trigger of any gun I own, and shoots like a rifle. Bfly Work hard and be nice, you never have enough time or friends.

None. That's what a 41 magnum is for. Larry "Peace is that brief glorious moment in history, when everybody stands around reloading" -- Thomas Jefferson

Two. The first is a Ruger Super Blackhawk I had customized by Larry Kelly at MagNaPort in the early '80s as a saddle gun for Elk hunting. Second is a S&W 29 Trail Boss 3" which was a carry gun for African hunting. Neither was used as a hunting handgun. For hunting I have .480Ruger, .460S&W and 500S&W (x2). I've owned several in the past, down to two S&W pistols just now. I'd like to get a Ruger single action in a belt sized gun (4 5/8 or 5.5") and another Redhawk because I didn't give the first one enough attention and sold it to someone who thought he would treat it better.

Only 2. a 3" smith 629 and a 4 5/8" SBH. Hell, I only have 2 hands. A lesson in irony The Food Stamp Program, administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is proud to be distributing this year the greatest amount of free Meals and Food Stamps ever, to 46 million people. Meanwhile, the National Park Service, administered by the U.S. Department of the Interior, asks us... "Please Do Not Feed the Animals." Their stated reason for the policy is because "The animals will grow dependent on handouts and will not learn to take care of themselves." Thus ends today's lesson in irony.

S&W 29 & 629 and SBH. But the last to go someday will be the AMs. The 44s are all models 180 in .44 AMP. One's an early AMT Pasadena, one's a TDE North Hollywood and another's an El Monte "Lion's Head" TDE. That one was from when LEJ was involved with the distribution.

John, If it helps I actually sold two to friends this year - but still have 5 DA .44's, 1 SA .44 and a Desert Eagle .44. But if Michelle tries to tell my wife... I'll deny all but the one S&W she helped give me before we were married. What a great cartridge for an all around revolver. For my needs its big enough to really penetrate and stop critters but small enough to pack and tolerable enough to shoot fast when needed. I've carried everything from the .357, 10mm, .41 and even up to the .500 S&W. But just keep coming back to the .44. The only gun I carried that was really a mistake, was the Desert Eagle. It just wasn't reliable enough (no matter how many times I worked with the factory to make it better). Even the 10mm Glock worked better for chasing wounded pigs than the DE, but it didn't have the accuracy or range. Why I don't get rid of the DE I'm not sure. Take care, Kyler

Kyler, I knew you had issues...but now I really know you have issues. Mike Legistine actu quod scripsi? Never under estimate the internet community's ability to reply to your post with their personal rant about their tangentially related, single occurrence issue. What I have learned on AR, since 2001: 1. The proper answer to: Where is the best place in town to get a steak dinner? is…You should go to Mel's Diner and get the fried chicken. 2. Big game animals can tell the difference between .015 of an inch in diameter, 15 grains of bullet weight, and 150 fps. 3. There is a difference in the performance of two identical projectiles launched at the same velocity if they came from different cartridges. 4. While a double rifle is the perfect DGR, every 375HH bolt gun needs to be modified to carry at least 5 down. 5. While a floor plate and detachable box magazine both use a mechanical latch, only the floor plate latch is reliable. Disregard the fact that every modern military rifle uses a detachable box magazine. 6. The Remington 700 is unreliable regardless of the fact it is the basis of the USMC M40 sniper rifle for 40+ years with no changes to the receiver or extractor and is the choice of more military and law enforcement sniper units than any other rifle. 7. PF actions are not suitable for a DGR and it is irrelevant that the M1, M14, M16, & AK47 which were designed for hunting men that can shoot back are all PF actions. 8. 95 deg F in Africa is different than 95 deg F in TX or CA and that is why you must worry about ammunition temperature in Africa (even though most safaris take place in winter) but not in TX or in CA. 9. The size of a ding in a gun's finish doesn't matter, what matters is whether it’s a safe ding or not. 10. 1 in a row is a trend, 2 in a row is statistically significant, and 3 in a row is an irrefutable fact. 11. Never buy a WSM or RCM cartridge for a safari rifle or your go to rifle in the USA because if they lose your ammo you can't find replacement ammo but don't worry 280 Rem, 338-06, 35 Whelen, and all Weatherby cartridges abound in Africa and back country stores. 12. A well hit animal can run 75 yds. in the open and suddenly drop with no initial blood trail, but the one I shot from 200 yds. away that ran 10 yds. and disappeared into a thicket and was not found was lost because the bullet penciled thru. I am 100% certain of this even though I have no physical evidence. 13. A 300 Win Mag is a 500 yard elk cartridge but a 308 Win is not a 300 yard elk cartridge even though the same bullet is travelling at the same velocity at those respective distances.

One. I bought the first 8" Dan Wesson 44 I saw. Added a 4" VH barrel to it for packing. Wonderful gun. I have several other over .40 revolvers, but this is the only 44.

I am using the poll results to show my wife that I'm not abnormal, or at least there are a few more just like me. I never bought into the Desert Eagle, mostly because I worked at a shooting range in my youth and found them to have reliability issues. Still carrying the 329PD? John

Kyler... awww, you really think I'd rat you out to your wife? no way, its too much fun hunting with gun nuts like us. I always knew John was, well, "dedicated" to gun fun, but at least now I know he's in good company. Besides, it's still all his fault I got into guns anyway...(only 1 44mag, but considering adding a second one to my collection) Michelle
