I've read that one effective way to degrease cases after an initial tumble to clean for resizing is to tumble a second time in media with 'solvent' added to remove the resizing lube. Was also told that's the reason Lyman has one tumbler model with two bowls. Anyone have experience? What solvent is appropriate to degrease with without removing brass? How much solvent in what cleaning media? Is another tumble even recommended or is some other technique better? Don Boyd

After resizing,I put my cases in a bucket of hot soapy water and swirl them with my hand and rince, like a washing machine. When they are ready I could feel the squeeky cleansiness with my fingers. When I am cleaning Lott cases,I sometimes use a nylon brush to remove the walnut media residue inside the cases, while they are submerged in the soapy water. When they are clean,I use compressed air to get out all the water and prepare them for neck sizing or expanding.

10-15 minutes of tumbling in the same corncob I used to clean the brass takes all the lube off after sizing. Like Jeffeosso found, I feel the media still lasts a long long time. ------------------------------------ The trouble with the Internet is that it's replacing masturbation as a leisure activity. ~Patrick Murray "Why shouldn`t truth be stranger then fiction? I tumble my cases a 2nd time after resizing to getting rid of the Imperial Sizing Wax prior to priming. I don't do anything extra to the corn cob media except sometimes put a little Dillon blue media stuff in it. The second bowl is usually for a smaller quantity or for molying. Usually the same media is used but some recommend a capful of mineral spirits to assist in removing the lube. Run the media for a little while before adding the cases to prevent clumping. The mineral spirits will evaporate out and has no impact on future use of the media. Remeber though that you may have to check each flashhole for stuck media. For case that I don't mind not having a nice "shine" I have dispensed with the second tumble and just use a solvent rinse. I used to use either acetone or Coleman type spirit because they evaporate quickly without residue. They are highly flammable though and I have gone to perchloroethylene (brake cleaner) because of this. Keep in a metal container and reuse the same gallon over and over again with lots of ventilation.

My only tumbling is after I resize. 30 minutes in a tumbler with corncobs does the job of cleaning the cases. Super shiney? No but that's not what I'm interested in. Aim for the exit hole

I tumble the cases over night to get them clean and very shinny. A large sewing needle is use to pick the tumbling media out of the primer pocket and flash hole. Then I wash the cases under running water and brush out the necks with a nylon brush, I do this to get the tumbling media slime and dust off. I always use "Imperial Sizing Die Wax" to lube the cases. After sizing I just wipe off the wax with a rag then wipe again with a micro fiber towel. My case stay shinny and don't get finger print tarnish marks after handling.

I simply wipe mine off as they leave my tray for the ammo boxes . A soft cotton cloth is all that's required ,even when I used sizing lube that's all I ever used . It's far easier now that I use Boeshield T 9 as my resizing agent and it keeps the brass Clean and shiny for Years . ![]() ![]() ![]()
