SKSshooter,
Quickload spit out muzzle velocity of about 2870 FPS for the parameteres you provided.

Good luck.

Pressure wise it estimates around 49k PSI.
It should be a fairly mild load.

QL shows a max of about 65.5gr at 3100 fps.

As far as choosing brass on QL, it's a little more involved then that. You must measure the water volume of your case.

thanks for the help fellas. i know the velocity isn't written in stone and i can only know for sure if i shoot it. but im actually quiet suprised. the manual lists max of 61g and velocity a little over 3k. this load is pretty accurate consistantly shooting just slightly over 1/2" at 100yds. ill stick with it for this year but i may work it up a bit higher after hunting season and see if the accuracy holds

on second thought i punched those numbers in the ballistic calc on my phone and at 2850fps it gives 28" drop @400 yds with velocity at 2150 and ftlbs at 1540.
at 3050 fps muzzle its gives
24" drop, velocity 2320 and ftlbs at 1790.

i probably wont make a shot at 400 but if i do that would be the longest. i feel pretty confident that the 2850 muzzle velocity is adequate to make a kill at that distance so i think i may just stick with that. i guess if i wanted more i could drop down to the 130's but i like the performance of the 150's they kill quick and with less explosiveness than i have had from the 130's. ive killed 3 deer with this round using the 150's all 100yds or less with the closest being about 40yds and all 3 were drt with limited damage to the surrounding meat. all 3 were through and through shots with good wound channels so im satisfied with what i have.

I always set up for max point blank range. In your case with the 2850 that would be 317yds using a 4" radius kill zone. 14.5" low at 400yds. So put the cross hairs on it out to 320yds then at 400 just over the top of the shoulder.

Open QL to the page above.
Highlight the entire page or any potion you wish.
Go to the top of the screen, left side and click on "copy to", select "clip board".
Now if you are going to post that clipboard on a forum like this and just click past it will come out all fucked up.
Enter your paste info like this.
On the keyboard select the square bracket left, it looks like this ([) .
Then type in the word (code).
Then select the square bracket right, it looks like this (])

Then hit the space a few times.
Now click on the square bracket left again ([).
Type in backwards slash (/) then the word (code) followed by another square bracket right (]).

Then click paste between the right and left square brackets code] here [/code . Notice I left out the other two square brackets for demo purposes.

Highlight the title bar of any window in QL. Hit control-Alt-C. Control-C without Alt doesn’t work. Control-Alt-C puts the image on the clipboard.

mick i did get what i was looking for. i just wanted to get a estimate of the velocity i could expect. i don't have a chrony at this time and from what i understand the book values are most often not correct. not to say that quickload is exact either but it has my exact components atleast. im fairly happy with groups i get with this load so it is a keeper either way. i may play around with it a little more after hunting season and see if i can get a chrony and find out exactly what i am getting and see if i can work it up some and squeeze some more speed out of it for some longer shots. or i might just say to heck with it and continue to go hunting with what i have. i may mess around with some different bullets also maybe try the accubonds. im still fairly young at 28 and didn't start hunting till i was 17 killed my first deer at 19 and since have shot between 10-15 all have been with either a ballistic tip or a sabboted bullet from a muzzle loader so i really have no experience with any other bullets. ive always been fairly pleased with the ballistic tips but have wondered if i could do better with something else. early on i had some pretty extensive meat damage when i was shooting a 270win with 130g factory loaded ballistic tips from nosler. so i have changed my approach to shooting deer from shoulder shots to shooting behind the shoulder which has limited the meat damage but there is still those times when its a quartering away shot and the bullet goes in good but comes out the off side shoulder and tears it all to hell. those times i get a bit aggrevated as im a meat hunter. i like horns and all but my priority is putting meat in the freezer as i prefer to eat venison rather than buy beef(even though im sure i can buy beef much cheaper by the pound).this passed year i think we may have bought 10lbs or less ground beef and that was because we finally ran out of deer from last season. i was able to take care of that opening weekend though i got to take a doe with my .444 marlin so i once again have some meat. anyway all that to say yes i did get the insight i was looking for and i do appreciate it.

well i got the chance to put the current combination to the test a couple weeks ago. i had a little 155lb 6pt come out on me. he was running a doe pretty hard and never stopped so i put the scope on him and yelled he stopped and looked back at me just long enough for me to put one in his chest. he flopped right there. as i got down i knew it was a decent distance but it really sank in how far it was as i was going towards him. stood where the dear layed and shot the rangefinder back to my stand and it was 340yards(checked it 3 times to be sure). upon skinning the dear i found the bullet lodged in the bone/spine area between his hind legs. i haven't weighted it yet but i expect it to be about 50 grains or so maybe a little more. either way im happy the dear was dead where i shot him. there was plenty of trauma to the internals and plenty of blood even if he would have ran a little. to be honest i was a bit concerned about the lower than expected speed calculation but after actually testing it on an animal i am much more confident in my current load. i will be sticking with the nosler bts and this load is a keeper. i may give some RL17 a shot to see if i can come up with a load that is as accurate if not i have no problem continuing to use what i have now. thanks again for all the help.
