To add to the confusion. Why is it that the big name places, like cabela's and locally Scheels have "zero" primers but independents - in near-by city, have plenty of primers- bullets and powder? and their orders are filled.

I really don't know but feel like taking a guess.I've known one independant shop for a long time and was told they can only buy some of their components once a year on a one shot basis. It was such for barnes bullets. He said he would buy a bunch at once and if the stock ran out then he had to wait for the next year before he could get any more.I guess when the stock is available, the shops that order two or three years stock at once, will have stock for along time. Here in Canada stores have been out of certain powders for years and are still waiting for their orders( some accurate arms powders is one example, win 308win cases is another, also federal primers). So I think there may still be independants that have primers because they oredered enough when it was time to order or ordered too many, while the big stores ordered small amounts and have to wait to get more.

Been reloading for about 54 years and this is the first time, I've run into this severe a shortage. My first primers and powder came in the mail from Herter's

Eastern Iowa here, and the run calmed down a bit, but then started up in force with reloading stuff.

It went, literally, in one week. I had the pick of Federal, CCI, Winchester, and Remington primers in all flavors to nothing in five days.

Can still find powder, some bullets, but no primers.

I would supsect it's just good old supply & demand. If you ar in a low population state, a good local shop may keep their stocks intact longer. Here in SoKal, there are few shops but what, 20M people?

Midway will not ship to individuals in Canada.

I seems the US component hoarders give them all the business they want, Midway doesn't need to go looking for more private citizen customers north of the USA.

Where I live if you can find a store that has a choice of two different bands it only because that store deals with a midlevel distributor that carries two brands. Boy will he be in trouble when either factory finds out he handling a competitors product.

The LeBaron's store chain in Canada only makes one order a year to US sources.

The best thing that happen to LeBaron's is Bass Pro coming to town.
Couple months after Bass Pro opened here I walked into the gun room in LeBaron's, the guy behind the counter looked up and said "can I help you" my jaw hit the floor, "I asked is this LeBaron's". The guy just grinned and walked down the counter to hide. Yup this is LeBaron's alright.
I hear Cabela's coming to the Montreal area, I hope that will light a fire under those complacent jerks.

I'm starting to see more and more powder available on the shelves. Primers won't be too far behind in availability.

I'm glad that I always keep 5-10,000 primers on hand at all times as I haven't had to buy any during all this craziness.

Ditto Frank ; I haven't purchased Primers since 2001 or 02 .

When I bought those Federal 205 and 210 they were $14.25 or $15.25 per K if memory serves me

and I bought cases not boxes or cartons , CASES of Cartons !. Same with Winchester LG SM

rifle pistol and 209's except they were cheaper yet maybe $12 12.50 ?!.

ANOTHER primer shortage? Not sure what causes these, other than paranoia. Ever since the shortage in the mid-90's, I keep enough on hand to last several months.

When you were in Cabelas and Scheels and found their shelves were bare of primers, what did they say when you asked them, why???

I'm still curious how Cabelas and Scheels answered your question as to why their shelves were empty. Did you ask?

It is not paranoia if Obama's crew is really out to take your rifles.
