Way to dis' a new member. Like it or not, this is the coming way of doing business and is far easier for smaller companies to manage. They know that their customer base is willing to try new methods of communication. Ignoring it is like refusing to use any Internet forums, or refusing to use a cell phone, or using a typewriter instead of a computer/printer. Good luck with your future!

I think it is young folks who really need to worry about their futures. No privacy, no personal info security in their growing dependance on modern "communications" technology. No job security because GIGO business models exert far too much influence over their industries.

And, there's the loss of the abilities to add, subtract, do long division, spell, and the other basic skills of life.

A throw away plastic world. What powers it when energy sources truly become scarce relative to world populations and oil isn't flooding the universe with the ability to make a plastic, throw-away society?

So far I don't even use Fax, have never received or sent a "twitter" or text message, have never gone to FaceBook or Craig's List, or read or written a "blog".

Guess what? Hasn't hurt my life one iota!

I still find more than enough of anything I want or need to buy. Still make a better living than most youngish people I have met. Still know how to interact with businessfolk and make profitable deals. Don't have any big problem with selling stuff by establishing long-standing, trusty, relationships with buyers.

Bigger and/or faster is a business model of the day, but it is not the only successful business model. Smaller, more personal, face-to-face skilled workmanship or service is another, And, often is more stable and less stressful. and more socially portable and economical in the long run.

If you want to weigh the value and effectivenss of the electronic methods of doing business, consider these thoughts:

1. Remember the "paperless" society computerhype once promised us? Where is it? do you see less numbing and expensive paperwork in business or government these days? I sure as heck don't!

2. How much of the business or other info on line is "accurate" and "true"? The ability to communicate instantly appears to have had a multiplier effect on lying, false statistics, and outright fraud because of the impersonal nature of the medium.

3. How much of the multitudes of info available today is even useful in any business or personal way? Just because we "can" store data, we seem now as a society to value doing so. Much of the information out there stands in the way of making good decisions. It creates info overload and obscures analysis as to what we actually want to do and what we actually need to know to do it effectively and efficiently.

4. How do the "KISS" principal and modern life interface? Maybe not so well. Keeping things straightforward and simple is a real value both in business and in life. Electronic communication appears to have done little to serve that ideal.

It appears useful in running electronic manufacturing machines, but not in running the manufacturing businesses themslves, and costs far too many assets to support the number crunchers and info specialists now bloating corporate structures.

I know you disagree, but one of these days you may learn another view.

Best wishes,

AC

Perhaps a little on topic and a little off!

I'm 59. I love this new fangled stuff. As far as I'm concerned its finer than frog's hair and slicker than owl shit.

I have the old 35 mm SLR cameras but digital is where its at as far as I'm concerned. I probably have 40,000 images on my backup hard drive, between game cams and personal pics.

Have the I-phone, love it. On my 32 gig I phone alone I have audio books down loaded, 115 different music cd's. I have ballistic programs on it, moon phase, hunting forecast/moon phase, altitude, compass, mail, internet browser, tom tom, 6 versions of the bible, Shazam (I can hold it up to a music source and it identifies the song, the artist and the album/cd name), financial calculator, google earth, knot tying program, metal detector, traffic maps, level, two different radio programs, voice recognition, scanner/copier, just to name a few.

Hooked up on Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter. I've reconnected with folks that I've not talked to since graduating high school 40 years ago.

Cloud storage or drop box, Photobucket, Gmail. I can be anywhere in the world and if I have internet access I'm connected and in business.

And yes, I "like Powder Valley". Good folks, good prices and good service.

Finally, from a marketing point of view if you know how, you can market yourself to the world. I used to have to take guns I wanted to sell and trade them in at the gun shop or at gun shows. Usually get 40% or less trade in. I can list a firearm here, 24hour, gunbroker, gunsamerica etc. and get much better results because I'm exposing my item to anyone in the US that has an internet connection.

Best

Every month Midway send me their flyer both ways, e-mail, and snail mail. For some reason, I always get the e-mail flyer first?

But come on Geedubya, back in the day we could get everything we needed at Rendivous. Ok so it was only once a year, and over 500 miles each way. So what if there was only one buyer of the furs, and one seller of the goods we needed. I had plenty of privacy, heck I didn't have to talk to anyone other then my horse for 6 months at a time. Why these kids today, they will ride into town once a week, go to church and stop in at the merchantile!!
Just me and my smooth bore flint lock. That's all I ever needed. These kids today keep wasting powder with their rapid firing cap locks, just blazing away. One shot every 8 seconds, and shooting way over 50 yards. Eeker You know, you have to buy those caps, you can't just knapp another one like you can for a good flint lock. You know that lead doesn't grow on trees, we are going to run out someday soon.

Actually, it had nothing to do with being told about a better price. It had to do with the attitude displayed in this line...

Hey AC, I suspect some of the people who appear to be disagreeing with your post are simply carrying over their "mad" from this thread on Head Shots. I doubt it has anything at all to do with you.

Of all the things YOU could have done, just where did you get the idea that it would be OK to "disagree" with anyone's thoughts. What a horrible thing to do on an Open Forum. To think that someone else might have a different thought about something or possibly has had a different experience.

But apparently it is OK for people to disagree with your post. bewildered

Hey Soonerhawk, Thanks for the Heads-Up! I sure hope my Thanking You, meets with the approval of everyone on both sides of this HUGE controversy.

I'll not say if I use any/all the latest gizmos since I sure don't want to upset either side. rotflmo

Thought about this last night. " When " they have one of those cellphones with an APP which allowes you to lay it on the Deer, push the APP button and it will automatically Gut, Skin, and Process the Deer, I'd sure like to have one. And Game Recognition so it would know if it is a Deer, Hog, Bear, Bass or Bream.

Now HC,

what would you do with a wife or girlfriend if you had an app on your phone like that. An old man like me can't "fish" all the time.

That is why we need you guys around, to point out the problems in a "New" APP.

Never could get Dr. Oehler to come out with the "Hot Core Model 1" either. It would measure CHE & PRE for you by just inserting the Case into a Shell Holder. No wires to fall over and entangle around the firearm - along with WiFi to put the data into the home computer.
-----

Since he didn't do that, he also missed out on Revision #1 - the l-o-n-g range camera feature to record a flick of the Target after each shot.

Also had Optical Hole Recognition(OHR) so that after shooting groups at two distances, it could "guesstimate" the Drop Rate for a Glossery of current Bullets.

More $$$Million$$$ ideas going to waste. Big Grin
