IMO one only crimps bullets with a cannelure.

I agree. If there's nothing to crimp like a groove or cannelure, then crimping should be avoided.

For target shooting all crimps are detrimental to good accuracy whether there's a crimp groove or not.


velocity is like a new car, always losing value.
BC is like diamonds, holding value forever.

crimping where there is no groove wil squeeze the bullet.
the copper and lead spring back at different rates leaving a gap between the jacket and core.
can't be good for accuracy.
