Is it good practice to crimp a .30-caliber target bullet that does not have a cannelure?

I agree. If there's nothing to crimp like a groove or cannelure, then crimping should be avoided.

swampshooterFor target shooting all crimps are detrimental to good accuracy whether there's a crimp groove or not.

Lamarcrimping where there is no groove wil squeeze the bullet.
the copper and lead spring back at different rates leaving a gap between the jacket and core.
can't be good for accuracy.
