We as gun owners and shooters seem to be our own worst enemy. I hope all the idiots who are hoarding ammo and componants are happy with the situation you have created. There is some dope on another forum who bought 5000 9MM ammo last Fall because he bought into the crap that "Obama and the Dems are going to take all of our guns and ammo away". The trouble was he doesn't own a 9MM and has no plans to buy one. Here is a perfect example of what those morons created. Well, on the plus side, once this is all over and people are stuck with the eleven trillion primers and 14 tons of powder they hoarded for profit, it's going to go really cheap for a while.

Yep. You have to wonder about a lot of those panicky idiots. I can't figure out how they manage to tie their shoes in the morning. I have routinely kept about 1000 primers and maybe somewhere between 10-20 lbs. of various powders on hand for, like, the last 30 years. I run out, I buy more. Now, because of these jokers, I can't do that. What components I do find are prohibitively priced (supply and demand) and not being a man of means that results in a lot less shooting. Thanks a lot. Better stop now before I get all worked up and start cussing and kick the cat!

I was "lucky" in that when I found out my wife was pregnant last year, I started stocking up enough primers, powder, and bullets to last two years (I usually buy my years supply in the fall). Unfortunatly, my wife REALLY wants to shoot her new 9mm more, and all I have is small pistol mag primers.

On The Other Hand -- Gun sales are up 49% last word I got. The current admin is "getting the message." The US is arming up for a "siege," and the siege will be gun owners against gun grabbers. If you want to be part of the "message" you'll go out and purchase something that requires a NICS. BATF and the current admin are keeping track of this spike in traffic/consumption. And just for the record -- I have 96 Lg. Rifle Primers. 500 Magnum Lg. Rifle primers, about 200 pcs. .308 Win. brass, and I can't find more. I don't use small rifle primers. I have less than 500 ea. in pistol primers. I have pistol brass and bullets, but I'm running low on powders and primers. Varget is impossible to find. I've been trap shooting more, although even shotgun primers are getting hard to find. "Send a message." Pretend the current shortages are your sacrifice for the "war effort."

The strange thing is that while I'm sitting on a rather large stockpile of primers, I bought them all in 2006. I bought some 15,000 primers because it was the largest order I could get away with and still split a single hazmat fee and a single shipping fee. Normally I bought my primers by the brick though. I'm lazy and don't like returning to the shop... As it is though I've been willing to trade primers where needed. I figure we all need to stick together a bit and share the wealth. Two bidders so far. One is willing to spend $450 on 5# of Varget, plus shipping and hazmat. If it was me, I'd switch to another powder until this madness is done with.

I am sorry you are upset by YOUR LACK of PLANNING. The increased cost of supplies has not impacted me one bit. Why? because I always keep enough supplies on hand that I only buy when it is a 'good deal'. As far as the pricing goes, the USA is said to be a free economy--- good for them if they can sell the powder for that money. By the way, I bought fed 215's for $28.00 a 1000 and varget for $18.00 a pound in the last 90 days. If you don't know where to get a good deal, ask here and I'm positive someone will help you out.

There was another gunbroker.com auction where 8 lbs. of Varget allegedly sold for $600. It turned out that when you looked at the bid history, quite a number of bids had been made by the same person. Could this be shill bidding?

No shortages at my house. All one has to do is buy smart and keep stocks up. Bitchin on the internet is not effective....spend the time shopping. I have primers I am using I bought in 1990 and paid a $12/1000 for. One mans hoarding is anothers smart shopping.

Varget is available at Powder Valley and/or Natchez (?) right now and most powder inventories are getting better. Primers are in short supply but will catch up soon, I feel. I always keep 3-4,000 primers of each size at the house along with 30 Lbs or so of powder so I've only bought a couple of Lbs of powder in the last 6 months. My prediction is that 6 months from now prices will get back to within 10% of pre-election prices and inventories will be back to normal. I bought a couple of hunting rifles, well below retail. And I never stocked up on anything. I have maybe 800 .224 bullets, and 4-5 hundred each on .243 and .270 already loaded up. I've never had more than 6 or 7 lbs of powder, and rarely more than a thousand primers. No plans for expansion to fuel the stupidity.

Well I think the hoarding is great. I hope every man, women and child has enough reloading supplies to last them 100 years. If only the suppliers could ratchet up production to make it so. If anyone, like you wymple, if foolish enough to think the current administration won't do everything they can to kill off hand loading (for a start) then you have your head in the sand. I do find those trying to take advantage of the situation with price gouging are scum bags and I make a note of them. However short supply and high demand always raises prices regardless of the product. ______________________ Always remember you're unique, just like everyone else.

It would not pay for a company to hire more people or get more machinery. They know this will end some day and then they would be laying off workers and having machines sit idle only to be taxed as property. Yes, the election caused it but in the end we will have more gun owners on our side to help protect the second amendment. I just wish the sale of every gun would have demanded the buyer join the NRA or some other pro gun group. A discount to cover membership would be nice. Sign up right in the store.

I'm not a horder; just a sucker for a good sale. That's when I tended to buy bulk. For a while there I was beginning to feel I had overdone it but now it feels like I get to shoot for free, lol. "Experience" is the only class you take where the exam comes before the lesson.

What fool pays $450.00 for 5lb. of ANY POWDER ?. Unless your a drug dealer purchasing heroin or cocaine then it's Dirt cheap ! . There is a greed factor built into every human being as sure as there is a laughter and anger factor . Imposing self control is the key too being successful !. The current surge will end eventually. But the "fear" driving it is NOT without a solid foundation! Who would have suspected last Christmas that by Memorial Day our economy, banking and auto industries would be commanded directly from DC? With more to follow, health care will be rationed soon, gas will be taxed to the $4 range, all the states budgets will have to be passed on by DC,firearms and ammuniton will be much more tightly controlled and taxed, etc. All for the children's sake of course. Three and a half years to go. We will hardly remember what life in the USA was like today!

I am working on a load for small pistol Mag primers. But that means a lot more tinckering that I figured I would have to do for "her" gun. Still, it is fun in a way. I used to have that much Varget in my locker. Used some of it, and sold the rest to a friend recently (just didn't like my .308). Seems I asked for to low of a price. He paid me what I paid for it, about $22 a lb.

Yep, I dropped in on Carter's last Saturday, and the only shortages they seemed to have were in powder, certain powders were unavailable, others were there as much as you want. LLS

Carter's must have an inside track on components. The Cabela's in Buda is nearly sold out of powder and is sold out of primers.

The fact is: the Socialist Democratic Party WANTS to do away with gun rights, that's a fact, NOT crap, more anti-gun bills have been brought up in many states like no other time in our history. I live in NY state, I should know. There are many reasons why people started hoarding, most are foolish, some were good. There was a shortage of many components in 2007 due to the wars we are fighting, this is when it all begun, and the RED menace made it only worse.

I know two guys that went to Wade's Gun store and bought a quantity of 9mm pistols in 1994 a few days after Clinton signed the assault weapons ban. The did not realize that the only thing they were buying that was banned was the high cap magazines. Meanwhile I bought Microsoft stock in 1994, and by 2000, it was worth 20 times as much. The hoarded armaments did not do as well.

I bought an SKS around the same time, which about 8 years ago I gave to my Dad. Paid $179 for it, and it is worth more than that now. Though I didn't buy it as an "investment". I bought it because I was 18 and thought I really wanted a noise maker. Dad uses it to kill coyotes and stray dogs. I have since fallen in love with accurate bolt action rilfes and big bore revolvers. My only "assault" gun is my AR, and its original upper was a heavy varmit RRA. Kind of funny how your likes and dislikes change as you get older.

The "Firearms in Nat'l Parks" legislation was tacked onto the current revision of credit card regulations. As we all know, it passed. But what's becoming apparent is that Democrats from a lot of western states (not CA) and "rural districts" are persuading/informing their Democratic colleagues that "gun control" legislation is a losing issue. HOLDER raised the AWB issue just recently in a Cabinet meeting and was told to STFU. In the meantime, the current surge is sales is sending a message, and Washington DC is listening -- maybe.
